We have currently been trying for nearly 17 months and I am now on Clomid and it is doing its job. But I am on 50mg seroquel a night. This petrifies me. Sure I have been so good since being on it and so happy. But I really think I need to get off of it for our future babies sake.
Hi, I havent personally taken it but I found this for you....
Use in pregnancy (Category B3)
The safety and efficacy of quetiapine during human pregnancy have not been established. Therefore, SEROQUEL should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits justify the potential risks.
Effects related to elevated prolactin levels (marginal reduction in male fertility and pseudopregnancy, protracted periods of diestrus, increased precoital interval and reduced pregnancy rate) were seen in rats, although these are not directly relevant to humans because of species differences in hormonal control of reproduction.
Teratogenic effects were not observed following administration of quetiapine at oral doses up to 200 mg/kg in rats (less than the exposure to quetiapine at the maximum recommended clinical dose based on AUC) and 100 mg/kg in rabbits (approximately twice the maximum clinical exposure based on BSA).
Its a good idea if you have a chat to your psychiatrist to see if there are other altenatives. Im pretty sure haloperadol is similar but is safer in pregnancy. Sorry to be scetchy but its been a while since I have practiced so am not up to date with it all. All the best x o
thanx Minimatron, the more research I do, the more I just want to stop it. I can't risk it. If worse comes to worse and I need to go back on them then so be it but I will try my best to stay away from them
It should be ok while youre ttc... its a hard one. If youre charting and can get in early and find out that youre utd then either change or not take it. Have you stopped taking it before? If so you need to think about what happens to you when you do? Do you quickly relapse/have an episode? Or is that something that happens gradually>? Definately one to take up with your health care provider.... and have a chat to your dh about it too.
