Question Headaches, what do you do for them?

Hi everyone, I started getting a dull headache about 5 days ago and it gradually got worse until yesterday by lunch time it was a real thumper I had to take 2 panadols when I got up from a nap at around 4pm and it did nothing. It was pounding all night and today when I got up it was still just as bad. My beautiful dh has been by my side since midday yesterday bless him, he's massaged me, gotten me drinks, peppermint tea with mint from our garden, make me food etc and this morning I thought I'd give some more panadol a go... It only just took the edge off I do not want to keep popping panadol, 4 in the last 24 hours is enough especially when it's not doing that much. I've also done EFT and pressure pointing on my hands. What do you girls do for headache in pregnancy and did any of you experience really bad ones? dh looked it up and it's apparently pretty common for various reasons such as extra blood in your body, fluid in your eyes and hormones. I also tried to book in with my acupuncturist today but there was no answer, I have an appointment on Monday though... Thanks for any help it's really appreciated.

It is awful feeling unwell when yo uare pregnant and there isnt much that you can take to make it go away.

Have you been drinking plenty of water? Lack of water can bring on headaches and you will probably be requiring more now with growing a baby and it being so humid and hot at this time of year.

I hope it goes away soon. that is lovely that your DH is doing what he can to try and take the pain away.

i experienced migraines when pregnant ... one was so bad it lasted 4days and i was beside myself, i wouldn't pop even a panadol as i was paranoid as i didn't want to put any medication into my preg body, ... the midwives said it's fine to take panadol, i think they thought i was nuts ' not ' doing so, lol ... DP would come home after work and start massaging my temples the minute he got in the front door & i just made sure i drank plenty of water !!

    What everyone else has said.

There is no problem whatsoever with taking panadol - so long as you follow the instructions on the packet - and I have also been told that panadine is fine so long as you don't take more than the recommended amount and not for more than 2 days (and watch out for constipation - it can come on very quickly when taking codeine during pregnancy)

Make sure that you are drinking LOADS of water - or lemonade to keep your sugar up as well.

And check what the temperature is - if you are a little warm lay down with a wet face washer over your face - it is amazing how much it can help.

But - given that you have had it for five days now - ring and make a Dr appt - so that they can check that there is nothing more serious like blood pressure issues etc.

Thanks girls, I have been drinking loads of water and dh and I just got back from the pool where I totally cooled off. I might get some panadine in case the panadol doesn't work... Last time I was pg I had a spliting headache and was crying and in so much distress! It was n't until the next day that I took panadol after dh had researched that it was OK,that's why I didn't mind taking some yesterday but it still didnt' work

I forgot to mention that I've also been taking magnesium for relaxing muscles as I thought it may have come on from neck tension? Magnesium can be a diaretic so I've been drinking even more water to counteract that! It has started to ease off so hopefully tomorrow it will be gone after a cup of camemile tea and a good sleep tonight.

    Thanks again ladies

I know this will sound silly but try some chocolate. It absolutely works a treat for me. I am always feeling a lot better an hour later. And then just get a really good night's sleep.

Also, I've found that the key with pregnancy headaches is to nip them in the bud with a couple of Panadol fairly quickly. When I tried to hold off I found that the headache got so bad that it would take a few doses of Panadol to finally get it under control, so I wound up taking more than I would have otherwise.

You poor thing!! Could it be the way you're carrying yourself? As you know your whole posture & the way you hold yourself changes when you're pregnant. This can cause headaches due to muscle tension in your back & neck.
Maybe try seeing a remedial massause (sp?) but make sure they are familiar with pregnant women as there are certain spots to avoid.

If it's from your neck I'd recommend finding a good chiropractor. I used to have regular headaches caused by neck pain but haven't had one in a few months. I my Chiro lol

Hope you feel better soon chica!
