Hi, I'm currently 6 weeks pg. after some light bleeding over the weekend I managed to get my dating scan moved from next week to this Thursday. I will b around 6 wks & 2 days, I was just wondering - is this too early to see anything? Will I be able to see a heartbeat? Had anyone had scans this early? What did you see?
I had my first scan at 6 weeks 2 days with DD. We saw a wriggling little blob with a strong heartbeat . According to dates I was supposed to be 7 weeks when I had this though, so if ovulation/ implantation are out by a day or 2 you may not see the heartbeat yet.

I had a dating scan at 6 weeks for the same reason and saw a heartbeat! My little one was actually measuring 6wks+3days, so got a little photo of a blob hehe. Good luck.
I had alot of scans to check for ectopic pregnancy due to previous ectopic and the Ob assured me at 6wks1day he could see a HB but I couldn't (although I trusted him that he could see it) I had one at 5.5weeks and could see the beginning of a sac but no fetal pole or yolk sac so they wouldn't confirm the pregnancy was uterine. I also had one at 4.5weeks and couldn't see anything but a thickened uterine lining expected in early pregnancy. Its amazing what a few days made. I was also trim (BMI about 22) and had a retroverted uterus. All the scans were transvaginal.
Thanks for your replies ladies I'm just a little confused - will we see it if it's a normal u/s or can you only see it with a transvaginal scan? Sorry I'm confused!
Transvaginal would be the best and possibly only way at this stage IMO. The sonographers are capable of just switching implements from normal scan to transvaginal though
My three kids all had their first scan in the 6th week and we saw a heartbeat at all three. All the scans were transvaginal though. With my last baby my Ob started with an abdo scan because he was unsure of the dates (even though I knew the exact date of conception, lol) and on the abdo scan we could only see the pregnancy sac which looked like a dark circle. Of course I started freaking out because that's all we saw with my first pregnancy which resulted in our angel But a switch to transvaginal revealed my little bub floating at the bottom of the sac with a beautiful heart beating away.
A few days can make a huge difference though. Sometimes it can take slightly longer for the embryo to get down the fallopian tubes and into the uterus to implant and therefore even if it just takes a day or so longer it can meant he difference between whether the heart has begun to beat or not. Sometimes the heart may have only just started beating and can be quite erratic as well.
I hope you get to see and hear an amazing heart beating though. It's such a magical moment ♥
I've had 6 week scans with each pregnancy despite knowing exactly when I conceived and having no issues, the first was TV and we saw a heart beat the other 2 were abdo, both happy healthy blobs but to little to pick up a HB that way
I've had 6 weeks scans with my first and again this time with my 4th.
My first was 8 years ago I had a bleed (turned out to be what was left of an implant bleed) and they warned me they might not see anything, but we were lucky and saw a flickering dot (on an abdominal scan)
This time I had abdominal pain from 4 weeks onward so had scans at 5 weeks (trans V, saw sack), 6 weeks (both abdominal and trans V) saw the heartbeat. Then again at 7 weeks. (abdominal, saw hb)
Depending on when you actually conceived its possible, it also depends on the quality of the hospitals equipment. Best of luck!
Just thought i'd do a quick update - I had my scan today - we got to see our tiny little blob! Heart rate was 111 bpm and is pretty much spot on with my dates! I also didn't need the transvaginal u/s as everything was clear with the abdominal u/s thanks for all Ur replies and support!
