DH just cooked some corned meat and said it was ready so i had a big bite of it but it was all hard and yuck. mum said that means it wasnt cooked for long enough. it was simnmering for an hour! is this bad in terms of listeria or any other disease that could hurt the baby? what should i do?

I wouldn't think there's anything you can do if you've already eaten it - you could always ring the Nurses Hotline, but I would just recommend not eating any more

I don't think many things would survive being simmered for an hour. I reckon anything on that meat would be well and truly dead by the time you ate it.

Not being cooked enough doesn't mean it wasn't nice and dead, just that some meats need to be cooked for hours and hours before they soften.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

i ended up heating the rest of it in the microwave for 10 mins and then ate some more. i feel a bit worried now that i have eaten more... but i was sooooooooooo hungry. surely it would be ok.

10 minutes in a mocrowave would kill anything! I think your chances of listeria surviving 1hr of boiling and 10 min in a micro are slim to none. I've eaten worse, you have to be pretty unlucky to get listeria. I'd say you are pretty safe.

Oh I am getting so bored with meat that has been cooked into leather... Roll on the days when I can eat a nice medium-rare steak again!
