I had my OB appointment on Monday and she said that my BP was higher than normal and she took a urin sample - she said that there was no protein in it but she gave me a slip to take to pathology to do 2 x 24 hr urine samples - I was expecting a few small cups but I was greeted with 2 large 2 ltr containers that I have to collect all my urine in for the 2 x 24 hr periods.
Once that is finished I have to have some blood taken at the hospital for some more tests.
Does anyone know what these tests are for?? I know high BP isnt good in preg - but it can be managed cant it?
Im scared for me and bubs.
Thanks
Kate

Hi Kafer girl
High blood pressure in pregnancy can be managed but it is a sign of pre-eclampsia (PE).
PE can be very dangerous to both you and your baby and the only cure is to give birth.
The urine test is to check if there is any protein in your urine. Protein in your urine is another sign of PE.
However many people who are diagnosed with high blood pressure never go on to develop PE. And as I said earlier, high blood pressure can be managed.
One more thing it would be very unusual to develop PE at 19 weeks pregnant.
