    Question How hot for baths???

    Howdy all,

Tonight for the first time in a little while I have the whole house to myself until about 9.30.

I am going to use this down time to run a bath (my first bath this pregnancy) light some candles, listen to some calming music and start my perineum massage in the bath.

I am a tad worried about getting the temp to hot for the bath though so can anyone tell me how hot it can be without it causing probs for bubby?

I had quite a few baths in my pregnancy with NIki hence the reason I have avoided them this time round in case I accidently start something but I really really want one and it seems like a good opportunity.

    Thanks

I had a bath almost every night when I was pregnant with DD. I love them! I was curious about how hot and what is dangerous for bubs so I did alot of checking with my midwife and BB and others.

The main thing is to not get in the bath while you are running it. You tend to have it alot hotter if you are in the bath with the taps running as your body temp adjusts. If you run the bath and put your foot in it and it is too hot you will know to cool it down. Does that make sense? I feel I am rambling!

I was also told that you would have to stay in a very hot bath for hours and hours for it to be dangerous to bubs. A half an hour bath should be fine.

    Enjoy

I have a specific little Baby Bath Thermometer government approved that measures:

    33 - 37 - OK - 43 - HOT

When the "OK" is glowing the temp is ideal for Baby's Bath, so I use it for my baths now too and put it in every time I have one andonly get in once it's glowing "OK" - I assume that "OK" Temp is about the 40 degree mark although, that does sound a little hot doesn't it?? Considering our bubs are only used to 37 or so! So maybe somewhere in between 37 - 40? BUT if you don't have a thermometer I'm not sure how'd you'd gauge temp exactly so i'd just say if it's too hot for you, like you have to quickly dip your foot out or "oooh aah" when you ease each foot in, it's too hot for bub - Before I had my thermometer my Midwife told me of my baths & heated pools, if your top lip sweats, it's too hot...

Sorry, I probably wasn't much help! I hope someone else can help more and you LOVE your bath tonight!! I have one or two every week and have done my whole pregnancy now - Aaaah BLISS!!

Good luck with getting in and out!!!

I was too scared to have a bath last preg unless DH was home to help me in and out!!!

This preg have only had 2 baths as DS wants in also and not relaxing LOL.

Main thing with bath is not to let your body temp increase too much, as someone has allready said dont run it while being in bath.

I didn't even think of that, I have a few things that I can hang onto to help with getting out, getting in I doubt will be a problem because I have no worries getting down its just the up

Thanks everyone for your input especially about not getting into the bath as it fills, I ALWAYS do this normally any wonder I have it so hot that my skin goes red. I have one of those Inferred thermometer things so i will be able to gauge the temp. My body sits at around 36.5 so if I aim for that I should be ok ??

I just need the sun to set a bit more so the room is nice and darkish - its going to be soooo nice.
