    I was under the impression.....

that once you reached 36 weeks pregnancy, you would be required to see an OB at the hospital once a week, instead of fortnightly. I had my appointment yesterday which was my almost 36 week appointment. But they only booked me in for another visit at 38 weeks....??

What's the policy with your hospital if you are aware of it????

I think mine was 36, 38, 39, 40 but I ended up coming in weekly sometimes twice a week from 28weeks I think because of complications.

I can understand it can be annoying because more appt.s makes it seem like you are doing something where you are so excited in those last weeks... if this is the case I suggest you could mark some pregnancy appts in you diary to make the time pass!

For example - wednesday - pregnancy massage, thursday - hire and watch knocked up, Friday - pedicure (after all when bubs comes out and sees you feet you wouldn't want to make a bad impression!)

Depends on the hospital/clinic. I am meant to be seeing the ob's every week now and I actually questioned that, as I thought it was excessive as my pregnacy has been quite good so far. So if I am seeing the midwives one week, I won't see the ob till the following week to save on double up.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was just wondering as one time I was there meeting with the Diabetes Educator and we got interrupted and one of the other DE's was asking about another patient who was 36 weeks and not coming in for another 2 weeks as that was when her next appointment was made for and they said, no she should be coming every week now as that is the way it's sposed to be. So I am a bit confused......I will just go with what they give me.

oh ok and I am assuming you have GD? I had it too, yes that does sound wierd usually with the GD they would want to see you every week to monitor your levels in case you need insulin I would call the hosp to double check this

ah ok i was on 4shots a day high dosage still uncontrolled but still as soon as I got gd without even needing insulin I was on weekly visits, I would double check just to make sure its all clear. If you are hopping to avoid induction maybe just leave it though..less opportunity for the convo to come up!

My ob has only seen me every 6 weeks even now. My next appt is next week where I'll be 34 weeks, but I am guessing I will have at least one more appt between then and 40 weeks

My sister and some friends have been on fortnightly appts since about 28-30 weeks even though their pregnancies have been going great. My ob said to me that I am well, baby is well thus there's no need to see her so often and that if I have any concerns then she is just a phone call away.

I am on fortnight ATM, which was from 31 wks to 37 then on to weekly from there.... I guess it might depend on your ob and your health too - my ob doesn't seem concerned about me and how the pregnancy is progressing so might even leave it till 38 week for weeklies..

Nope, I can't avoid the induction. But I don't really mind....I will be posting about that later. I have decided after talking with my DH that when I call the Diabetes Clinic on Monday, I am going to ask them if I should indeed be seeing an OB that week as well and if so, I will try and get myself an appointment seeing as I will be there to see a D.E anyways. I am also on 4 injections daily

I just want my weekly visits to start now as baby is measuring bigger than she should and I am freaked out!

Yea that sounds like a good idea! Actually now that I think about it I actually had an u/s at least once a week at that stage too to monitor growth, I can definitely sympathise and understand how you are feeling ...feel free to pm me at any stage or add me to msn if you want to chat I was induced 3weeks early Noah was 9p4 and he was growing at a rate of 2pounds + per week

I had an u/s done 2 weeks ago and she was 2.1kg (4.5p) and I was just on 34 weeks...so I was pretty happy with that as that was right on track. Then yesterday at my appointment the OB measured me and was like 'oh you're a bit big'....and I am like oh pooh cuz I have a while to go yet. Everytime I asked I was told I would be induced at 38 weeks and I am thinking that it should be that or even a couple of days sooner as I don't want to end up with a C.section because no one was monitoring my size.

That is a good size in terms of fundal height measurement it is quite inaccurate, canbe effected by the amount of amniotic fluid, postion of bubs etc, you can do it, your body knows how!

I know women are capable of birthing a big baby, I just am worried about her putting on unnecessary extra weight and then having probs with her blood sugar levels because of it. The OB measured me at 39cm (I am almost 36wks) yesterday and every other time I have been measured I have been measured basically to match how far along I am ... I.e - 33 weeks = 33cm.

It's so hard when you are seeing a different OB for every single appointment, as it's hard to develop trust and an ease of communication. Being my first, I just want it all to go as smoothly as possible.
