What does a Chiro do for you during pregnancy?

My doula has suggested I go to a chiro during my pregnancy, but I am wondering what it is exactly that they do. She did tell me, but I can't remember!! Is it something I can do at home with stretches? We have spent a lot of money on this pregnancy so far and I am a little hesitant to spend more unless it really is going to make a big difference to my labour.

    Thanks!!

They can make sure everything is in alignment so that bubs has a good chance of getting in a good position. Also if you have any back pain or anything, they can help with that too.

Mine also knows some inducing points when I reach 40 weeks, so I'm not sure if thats something all of them know or just her - cos she's pretty darn special!

You might benefit more from seeing a physio or just having a massage every now and then if you don't have an actual problem. Bowen might even be a good option for you too. I was already seeing my chiro for years before I first fell pg, so I continued seeing him throughout all 4 pg's just to keep things in alignment as my body adjusted to the extra weight and body changes etc.

Chiropractors make sure that your spine and hips, neck etc are in alignment so that the nerve signals coming down from your brain along your spinal cord are reaching every cell tissue and organ in your body. As you know if those signals don't get through than you start experiencing disease in your body as the healing messages aren't being received. I was adjusted every week through my whole pregnancy and bub just came right out in 3.5 hours Having a clear path is obviously a plus for bubs arrival. Goodluck

Our DS also gets adjusted and he loves it plus sleeps like a trooper after wards... ahhhhh bliss LOL

My mum does massage and some alignment (but she lives in Cairns) and she is coming down in Feb, so she can make sure that i am in alignment, but she's not sure any other reason the doula would want me to go ... perhaps I should just ask her again!!

Chriopractors go to uni for over 6 years to learn how to adjust your body properly. It is a specialist skill, sure other therapist might know a few moves (I do too) but that's a whole different story. You wouldn't go to an optometrist to get you teeth checked would you? I also get loads of massages and acupuncture and I couldn't live without them but the chiro is for skeletal alignment and massage therapy is for your muscles. KWIM?
