If they find something wrong at the 20 week scan...

Would the tell you immediately or would they send a report to your Ob?

They'd tell you only the basics and send the report to your OB ASAP and your OB would call you to come in. They're only sonographers, they're not medically trained to sit down with you and discuss what is happening. That's what an OB/GP is for.

A sonographer can only see whats going on they can tell you what they see, but a Dr or Ob can discuss what can or should be done, they would have a letter printed inside your scan results, and then the Dr would talk to you.

They would probably recommend you speak to your Dr if they saw anything abnormal.

Our sonographer went back 3 times to measure something... She said all is well but now I am convincing myself that there must be something wrong if she had to go back and do it again?????

When was your scan? If there was something wrong, you probably would have received a call from your OB by now. It is common for them to go back and look at something a couple of times as sometimes bub isn't in the right position. They'll go out and look at the prints, come back in, look again etc.
Very rarely these days will they put the report in the envelope with the scans. They usually send the report over the referring dr.

Try not to worry too much Zinnia, it might've been that bubs wasn't in a great position to measure it the first couple of times, or they were just double-checking. I'm pretty sure they would've told you if there was something to worry about, or as the others have said your care provider would've been in contact. If it is really worrying you maybe give your care provider a call today and ask so that you can ease your mind.

    Hi Zinnia,

I posted a similar question the other week

At my last 20 week scan in 2008 they put the results in with the scans, so I knew everything was ok, but now they don't so I freaked out a bit this time and was worried, but all was ok.

Have you heard anything from your Ob yet?

Sometimes its just becuase the baby is moving and they cant get a good picture.
At my 20w scan, the radiographer spent 40+minutes just on the heart. I freaked out and asked if there was a problem, and he said yes your baby wont stop moving and I cant get a clear shot!
There was not actual issue to be worried about.

My scan report has always been put in with my scan & sent through electronically to my referring doctor as well.

With DS I had to go back for another scan a week later coz he was in the wrong position to get the main artery down his back. Even then it took over an hour to get it right coz he wouldn't move! (he was facing my belly, I had to touch my toes a few times, walk around, then finally lay kinda on my belly to get him to face my back, lol)

I'm sure everything is fine, specially since you haven't heard anything.
