So I have always assumed this is normal but maybe not??
When I cough I get a pain in my lower tummy probably about an inch above my pubic bone but always to one side or the other. Mostly it will be very brief but sometimes is like a searing pain and lasts for around 30 secs to a minute.
Is this normal? Happened with DS but not as bad as this time round.
I had it happen, I hold the underside of my bump when I cough, but I hate sneezing more! I have a very round basketball shaped bump, so it is very sticky outy and I guess there is a lot of strain on those muscles.
I've had the same thing happen to an ever-increasing extent. Cough, sneeze, exertion, carrying DS, whatever... I was getting twinges on either left or right hand side, and thought oh does everyone get this. Checked with 6 of preggie friends and no, not everyone was getting it. In my case the twinges have slowly gotten worse (worst case 1 hour in bed with a heat-pack can't move) and up cropped some hip pain - just diagnosed with pelvic instability yesterday. Not saying that's what you have, but keep an eye on it, if it gets worse it's worth getting some good physio/osteo/chiro care. I did get it last PG too (but not properly diagnosed), but got it worse and earlier this time... my osteo said something about lugging around a boofer toddler not helping, go figure huh!
GL, hope it doesn't get worse. Oh and the other good piece of advice I got - if it hurts, don't do it (if possible!). I too (like Beema) was clutching my bump to try and avoid it.
I didn't realise it could be related to Pelvic Instability, I had it with DD and it has just started again on Friday, had the pains when coughing a lot longer, but no troubles with my hips, groin and pelvis area until just recently (got 6 weeks further before it started this time as well ), but today has been a great day, probably means tomorrow will be a painful one at least i know now how to put my support belt on
Hi there,
I get this as well, think I even posted about it a month or more ago.
I think someone responded and said it has something to do with the ligaments stretching, but I may be wrong.
I get it when I cough or sneeze and try to tuck my knees in when it happens.
Hmmm i'd be curious to know what causes it as i'm only 14 weeks and have had it for a while.
