Thread: Lumps under my armpits?!

    Question Lumps under my armpits?!

Hi girls...just wondering, has anyone experienced strange little lumps in their armpits while pregnant? I have them occasionally and they come and go without too much hassle. They are sensitive to touch but otherwise don't hurt... I'm sure they're nothing to worry about but I am wondering if it's a pregnancy thing or just something my body is going through at the moment anyway... The lumps are usually about pea sized or so and last a few days to a week at a time.

Are they ontop on the skin or inside? If inside then maybe it could be your lymph nodes are swollen. I've had this, though not in pregnant but sometimes when i get a cold. Other than that i am n ot sure sorry. Maybe ask your OB??

i was gunna say lymph nodes which could be fluid due to pregnancy? Or they could be little ingrown hairs if they are on top. But best to get them checked out incase

I get them normally (but not since being PG). It could be any number of things. Have you had it checked out previously? I always recommend getting any new lumps checked out by a doc JIC. HTH.

They're under the skin and I haven't had them checked as yet because they come and go so quickly & I haven't actually had them when I've had a drs appointment. I've never had them before but in the last 10 - 15 weeks they've started... I was thinking something about the lymph nodes too (my throat glands are also a bit swollen).

I got them early on in my pregnancy, my dr said it is a pregnancy symptom, that's how my pregnancy was discovered.

Hi, just check with your dr next time you go whether you have got them or not. I get them on and off and have had mine checked numerous times, I was told that they were irritated sweat glands.

    All the best

This sounds a bit like something I was reading about in Up the Duff by Kaz Cooke - called "breast tails" and it is to do with your body starting to produce milk. Just a thought. But yeah, just run it past the doc next time, for peace of mind.

    Hi,

Could either be your lymph nodes if your a bit sick at the time or milk ducts/glands.

My immediate thought on reading the title of this thread was milk ducts. My SIL, when her milk came in discovered she had milk ducts all the way into her armpit and down to her elbows. When her milk came in she got ENOURMOUS lumps under there and could actually express milk from her armpits. But thats another story lol. Quite uncommon to have it to that extent but yeah.

So it could be that your milk is starting to come in

I had my first lump appear when I was about 20 weeks pg with my first pg. My Ob told me it was excess breast tissue & would settle down once baby was born. Well it stayed there while I was BFing & settled once AF returned. But with PG#2 it came back with 3 friends. I though nothing of it & then when my milk came in with #2 I had golf balls under my arm pit. but once the engorment setled down they went back to there normal size. About a yr ago I went to the GP about them as I had noticed a smaller hard lump (the others are more soft & fluidy feeling). She said that the smaller one was a sabatious cyst but she was more concrned about the larger soft lump. Its rather noticable, you don't need to feel for it you can see it. Anyway told her the history of these lumps but she felt I should have an ultrasound done. Did this & while the small hard one was a cyst like she thought, the Ultrasound report sugested a biopsy to diagnose the others as they looked different etc. Anyway when I went back the GP said they are all sabatious cysts & not to worry about them. This didn't sit well with me as I thought, if that the case why does the u/s report suggest biopsy. I said that & also that if it can wait I would like to leave it till I'm not Bfing as I imagine it would be painful & would need to not have alot of weight onthe arm & having a 1 yr old resting in my arm while bfing would possibly make it sore. She said well there is no need its a cyst. I went to a differnt Dr about a month later for a 2nd opinion. He told me that they was excess breast tissue in my arm pit area but the lumps where my lymph nodes & get this, the reason it was rather prominant(sp?) was because I shave under my arms & each time I do it removes a layer of skin!! But he suggested getting the biopsy done & maybe seeing a breast specialist but to go back to my gp so she can refer me to someone in my local area. I went back to my normal GP and told her the lumps would be sensitive, sort of felt like the top of the skin was chaffed occasionally and also asked for a referal to a breast specialist. She LAUGHED as she told me I would be wasting there time as its a cyst. She said she would give me a referal but would clearly state it was my request to go not hers as she didn't want to be the one it fell on for wasting there time! I said don't worry about it then & left & have not been back to her since.
Anyway once AF returned again they settled down. but 3rd pg & they are back & a little sensitive again. I have an OB appointment on Tuesday so might take the advantage of his time & quiz him about them.
But I do believe its all pg & bfing related.
