I'm guessing it's just to cover themselves in this crazy world of litigation. They know that the chances of m/c are higher in the first trimester and want to avoid women making any connection between the massage and a subsequent miscarriage.
I would think that it's perfectly safe so long as a) they used natural products with no additives that could be harmful to baby (which goes for the whole pregnancy), and that they don't do too much work on pressure points that can cause uterine contractions (which all trained massage therapists should know).
Hello 1pj! I went for a massage at 8 weeks. It was a girlfriend doing it and I had asked her what the go was before I booked. She told me it's good for the massage therapist to be aware you are PG as they avoid certain pressure points, and they also don't use certain oils. My friend is trained in PG massage and it's mainly what she does. She says most places say no before 12 weeks because of liability etc.
Enjoy it, what a lovely thing to look forward to xox
a friend who does massage said he "prefers" not to massage until you can feel the baby move - the increased blood flow during massage, and, as mentioned, the toxins released, pose a small risk to the fetus. by 12 weeks, the risk is much lower, but his preference is to wait as the baby will move a lot more and let mum know if the increased blood flow is causing dramas
i think if your friend specialises in pregnancy massage (my friend does therapeutic/deep tissue) they would know what they are doing for that gestation kwim?
I had one last week and Im 10 weeks along.... My middle and lower back are painful already. I really dont think you need to worry... you should always drink plenty of water after a massage anyway to get things moving and release the toxins.
The practice i went to specialize in Pregnancy massage, even though im not showing yet they have special tables so you can lie on your bump... I had never heard of this ! cute !
If the therapist knows what they are doing then it's unlikely there will be a problem, regardless of how many weeks you are. I've had massages throughout both pregnancies. I trust my therapist to avoid certain spots and not use certain oils.
