    Maternity Bridal Dresses.... Anyone?

    Morning Everyone,

Im hoping someone can give me some advice on purchasing a wedding dress, I am getting married on the 20th January 07, and I will be 5 months by then with my first bubba.

I have spend hours searching the net for places in Sydney (or even Australia) that specialize in Maternity Bridal Wear. Nothing!

I found one site from the UK but that is not going to help me, does anyone know of anywhere that sells or hires maternity dresses?

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    X

    Hi,

I was 4 months preg when I got married. I got my dress from a bridal boutique in Adl. It is strapless and is a lace up at the back so was tailored to fit me and my growing belly. Even the though design was for a non-preg person, it worked very well.

My gf got married while pg. I'll give her a call and see if I can find out where she got her dress. She is in Melbourne though so I'm not sure it's any help.

I got married at 34 weeks and had my dress made for me because i just could not find anything!

I tired on a few normal bridal gowns at around 5 mths and really, they fitted quite well. Just depending what style you get. I just went up 2 dress sizes, so it fitted round the middle. A dress with the material crossing over the front or extra layer splitting down the middle flatters the belly really well.

I would say go empire line for it - I know that I'd just need a size bigger right now, and I'm 5m gone. Actually, I could fit into a wedding dress like my own right now and just squeeze everything in, but it wouldn't be that comfortable. Plus I'm so not a size 6 any more! It was a squeeze at Christmas, so I'd probably need a bigger size, but I could still get away with corsetted things.

It would be worth finding a shop that would let you buy something "off the peg" a week or so beforehand, so that you know it fits well. You could also do one of those corset-back things with the lace running up it, so if you need a bit more room you have it.

Thanx for all the info guys! Going to have a look at a few bridal shops over the weekend, Ive always loved the long flowing baby doll type, so i might just fit into a normal dress with a little give.

    Once again
    Thanx!

Good luck Babushka! I am getting married in 10 weeks and I will be 27 weeks. I have just started looking for a dress, and I also like the baby doll style flowing dresses. The only places I have found are on line and mostly in the UK, which, while not completely helpful, at least I have been able to check out some of the designs.

    Hi girls,
i got married at 6 1/2 months pregnant with my DD.
I hired my dress from Mary Vidler Bridal at Lismore NSW. She was brilliant, and the dress was beautiful. It was almost like a cross between a medievil greek type, and a babydoll. She tailored the dress, as it was much too big, but it didnt really look like i was pregnant when standing straight, so was nice for photos etc.
I think if you are only going to be 5 months,,check out a nice flowing dress, and I am sure that you would be able to find a normal wedding dress to fit.
good luck hun, if I had my scanner working, I would post up a photo for you to see, but it is RIP

I got married when i was 19 weeks. I was a big girl before Pg and by 19 weeks i already had a visible bump. I wore a normal bride dress. I got it from a shop in Leumeah (Campbelltown). I just ordered the next size up and it fitted perfectly. Strapless, tied-ribbon up at the back which allowed for more space. Flared at the front. If you have a look on my bubs site theres a picture of the dress. Or contact me and ill find you a better picture. So many nice ones out there that can suit skinny people to us pg women

I got married at 23 weeks in August and wore a non bridal dress from Ripe Maternity. It was a beautiful cream colour in satin and was a beautiful empire line type dress. I had so many people come up and ask me where I bought my dress because they thought it was from a bridal store. With jewellery, a veil and shoes, you wouldnt have known it was maternity at all.

The bonus was I was comfortable all night )

I was going to suggest empire line too.
EGG maternity had a really nice formal fress last year, but nothing white.
(I'd have worn it though, I had a pink wedding dress anyway)

OMG I thought so - that's where our reception was!!!! I checked out your photos when you said you got your dress at Leumeah LOL then saw the reception photo & thought I know that place! We had wanted our reception in Studley Park House, but they're still doing it up (6 years later!).

Where was the ceremony? We were at St Johns Camden.
