    Maternity Clothing?

i am just curious about when people started wearing maternity clothing throughtout their pregnancy.

i am only nine weeks and am having a hard time fitting into my normal clothes. i have quite a rounded belly now, i think that is bubs pushing all my insides up. so far i have been living in tracky daks and baggy t-shirts (which is a normal enough look for a student), but DH bought me a gorgeous maternity shirt the other day. the only thing is that i cann't yet bring myself to wear it. to most people i'm sure i only look like i have put on a bit of weight around the middle, and i feel like a bit of a fraud to wear it this early. also because my belly isn't big enough to fill it yet, it hangs really low at the front.

sorry to ramble, i just wanted to know how early or late most paople start to wear maternity clothes.

    Everyone is different Misty.

I didn't buy or wear any maternity clothes for my first pregnancy but the 2nd I brought 1 maternity t-shirt and 2 pairs of new track pants (not maternity just larger size)

Misty, i was in denial about maternity clothes till about 15 weeks, by this time hubby encouraged me to go shopping in some specialist shops. From about 8 weeks onwards my normal clothes felt a little tight, so i went and brought a couple of things in a bigger stretchy size, i found Witchery ws great for this. My boobs grew heaps so even my tops seemed a little tight from early on, not only my belly.

It definitely is very individual indeed

Hi Misty...i really think every woman is different. This time around I could not stand anything with the slightest pressure on my tummy so by 11 weeks had bought some maternity pants and was living in maternity clothes from 14 weeks. With my first pregnancy I can remember not needing any maternity clothes until about 7 it really just depends on your own body.

    Beautiful Adelaide!

When I was pg with Olivia we were in hot and humid Darwin so I just switched to bigger sizes of t-shirts, shorts with elasticated waist-bands and I had some great baggy sleeveless t-shirt dresses that I wore from about 28 weeks......

As the other girls have said, each pregnancy is different, and this go round I moved into maternity clothes (jeans and tops mostly) from about 24 weeks, but mostly becasue we are back in Adelaide and I had no warm clothes at all, so when I did a "winter clothes shop" I aimed at maternity clothes.

One thing I have found is that, for me, materity clothes fit me better and are more flattering than simply going a few sizes up of normal clothes, so I FEEL better in maternity clothes!

Either way, whatever makes you comfy & makes you feel good!

I had to wear maternity pants for work from 8 weeks and didn't need tops until after 15+ weeks. I still wear normal tops if I wear pants that go over my belly rather than under.

Ahhhhh..... yes, I had that same dilemma.

From memory I started gravitating toward the pants at 12 weeks (drawstring maternity gear only) just because I couldn't tolerate anything tight & tops (other than oversized target/bonds gear) at 16 weeks.

Just get comfortable & dont think too hard about it.

The one thing I will say is that soom enough you realise it has been 3.5 months since you wore anything outside the maternity repetoure & it gets depressing. I see girls in cute little cargo pants or baby doll jeans & just want to cry "Please god give me my ass back!"

    hi misty,

i started wearing a size bigger from about 12 weeks, and maternity clothes most of the time from about 18 weeks.

there seems to be a stage where you are too big for all your clothes but maternity clothes look ridiculous!! iykwim. at this stage i did wear maternity, because even though it looked a little funny, to me comfort was the most important thing!

another thing i found handy was the 'belly belt' it just makes the front of your jeans/pants bigger so you can wear your normal size. it is about $30. Not too bad, although i havent used mine as much as i thought i would.

I have to say that I went straight for the maternity gear too. I just havent been able to handle haing anything slightly tight around my belly since about 11 weeks. I swore that I wouldnt be one of those people who spend a million dollars on maternity clothes but I tell you its scarely how much i have spent coz you just feel so nice wearing something that fits properly. Oh to have a waist back though!!!(I just cant wait)

I had the pants early on like 12 weeks and then tops not until around 22 weeks. My bum is what expanded first and I decided to wear maternity pants rather than buying two lots of pants...

I started wearing bigger clothes at about 14 weeks, and maternity clothes a couple of weeks later.

I'm fairly tall, and long in the body, so when I'm not pregnant I find it really hard to buy tops that are long enough - thats the one upside for me with maternity tops so far - no showing off my midriff

    Back in Brisvegas :)

*L* I wore my first maternity gear outfit to work yesterday. I am in LOVE with the drawstring maternity pants (except when they gape a bit at the back on the bum when I sit down). Put on a maternity work blouse which fits me everywhere but the tummy. Tummy does seem to be expanding rapidly by the day however! hehe

I have to admit, I did feel like a bit of a fraud yesterday at just 15wks with baby no. 1 wearing maternity clothes already (especially considering how much weight I've lost this pregnancy) but my goodness they were comfortable.

I started weaing a belly belt with my normal jeans/pants at about 11 weeks, then moved to full-on mat wear at 14-15 weeks. It's really annoying when you're in that in-between stage... lots of woment wear their DHs clothes but mine is skinnier than me anyway so I couldn't steal his jeans!

I started wearing Maternity clothes from about 12 weeks, from 16 weeks I was constantly wearing them, from 24 weeks onwards I was wearing DH`s t shirts to bed as my pygamas no longer fitted me.
