Maternity pads, which are best?

Morning everyone.

I was just wondering for those who've already been through this which maternity pads did you find the best? I'm starting to get bits & pieces now for my hospital bag & not sure which ones to use. Or did you find you were ok just using super pads?

I have used proper maternity pads (Libra) for the first couple of days cos they are much longer and bleeding is unpredictable - and less chance of a leak etc. Then after that used super - I just bought homebrand then cos even if I changed them twice as often (which is good really!) - you can still buy 2- 3 packets for the price of name brand ones. I used a brand name one for overnight though or even still maternity one overnight for the first week.

I think i used Libra as well - but took a few of those massive ones that the hospital has home and used them for a couple of day!

I had two packs of maternity pads, Kotex which I LOVED, and then I just used my normal pads (U)after I finished those two.

Yes they are surfboards, but especialy if you have had any tearing, stitches or are sore, they are fabulous.
They also fit an ice pack or frozen icypolue incide nicely where an unltrathin fails.

Thanks for the tip regarding the icepack. I was looking at both the Kotex & Libra pads. I've seen both on sale at the moment so thought i'd get some now. Would 2 packs be enough while in the hospital at least?

It really depends. I took 4 and I think I went through most of them but I was in hospital for 3 nights following the birth.
I also had not stocked up at home so had to send DH out to buy more, not fun for him!

I think you can never have too many!!! But my hospital had some and I used theirs while I was there (3 nights). And then I used mine once I got home.

I used the stayfree maternity pads. They're also like surfboards but i found the extra padding fantastic for my tender hooha lol I think I only used a pack or 2 and then went on to my normal pads.

I actually preferred the surf board type ones last time over the thinner ones, just gave that extra padding down there after having stitches and all going on.

Libra Maternity Ultra Thins with wings. I had a caesar though so wasn't that tender down below and didn't bleed as much as a V-birth.

I used libra mat ultra thins for all of mine, though i atually use them all the time, as i have a heavy flow anyway and need the extra protection. When in hospital i put the hosptial ones on top of it for the first 2 days there and then when i was at home to as a bleed alot. My hospital ones were not water proff so need a real one under it.

I used the Libra ultrathin Maturnity pads and for the first week I also put the hospital surf boards as well (on top of the utra thin pad) Then they definately didn't move or soak through at all Then just wore the ultra for a couple of weeks before just going back to a normal pad.

Well I am usual ppad hater...have to go the tmpon way and before having Noah was really not looking forward to these massive pads but anyway after reading a similar thread on here at the time and an overwhelming number of ppl recommending Kotex I went and got them.

They are really thick but it is heaven on a sore down there! The hospital I had Noah at had the stayfree ones and I used some of those and they are good too just not as padded as Kotex. I have bought one pack of stayfree so far but will use kotex closer to the birth

The absolute best advice I can give with maternity pads is something a wonderful midwife showed me with Noah. If you get 2 pads and overlap them a bit lengthways (so you have one super long pad) that way you have coverage from the very front to the very back, makes it very comfy and i never had even a single tiny stain on any of my underwear from having Noah....and I even used white and tan underwear....and I even had some placenta come out (way way tmi) the size of 2 fists put together and some the size of one fist and also had heavt bleeding after birth that the midwives wanted to keep and eye on so not like i had very light bleeding iykwim

I think i'll go with the Kotex brand. Thanks also for the tips on overlaping 2 pads, would never have thought to do this.

Yep. I am glad the overlapping came in to play. I was doing that and had never heard of anyone else doing it. I thought I was just a freak.

BTW.... I used Libra and Stayfree. I must have been a real bleeder because I took 4 packs to hossie and had to get DH to rush out and get me another 4 packs.
