I dont think they are even asking for the government to pay!(or us tax payers who also are consumers!) they want an insurance product available, or they want it that women can choose to hire an uninsured m/w!

Oh I understand they want someone to insure them though I can understand why nobody has yet or if they even will. I can only see the government insuring them eventually if at all.

It's not about who should pay what, they are taking away choice from women.

I would imagine as electives are done in a safe environment where if something goes wrong there is immediate surgical intervention, assistance and facilities on stand by including back up staff and specialists. People who elect to get plastic surgery are also privy to immediate surgical assistance and facilities for emergency intervention. Home birthing midwives don't have this.
