Completely agree, I msg'd back asking if she will deliver in Melb, I know for a fact Geelong send babies born before 34wks to Melb so a baby weighing 900grams is way below that gestation, the reply was that the hospital are thinking about it, that's why she is having scans and being tested 2 times a week.

Oh she wouldn't be delivering a geelong! She'd be going to the women's.

I'm definately not getting involved, I've told my friend of my concerns but she seems to believe what's going on.

No way would any care provider let woman whose baby was that small and placenta flow that bad leave the hospital let alone leav the state. Something is very off about this.

No way is that true as a placenta that is that crappy will fail and baby will die if not delivered ASAP.

I am sorry your friend is caught up in this.

Yeah that to all the PP's... it does not ring true at all.

I wonder what the real story is, and what is in the mind of someone who perpetuates a story like that....

Yikes Dianne. This doesn't quite sound right I agree. Is she asking your friend for money? I half wonder if the small baby isn't a cover for a very small belly...

Diane, there is no way she would be allowed to still be pregnant ( I'm a midwife in geelong and know the obstetricians) and if a baby was that growth restricted a) it would have been delivered by now in a tertiary hospital and b) it probably wouldn't have survived that long

Sounds VEEERRRYYY dodgy, re the WA hospital telling her theres no blood flow through the pacenta and thats ok, and giving a baby human fat.

Either they have completely misinterpreted what they were told or they are speaking **** to get something out of people.

And she doesn't need premmie clothes or anything yet as the baby would be in the scn for months at that weight.

    Steer clear!

There has obviously been a mistake somewhere or as the others have said, its a scam.

If a baby was 900g at full term and she's has had proper antenatal care, that baby would have been taken out AGES ago. Baby's who aren't thriving inside the womb have a better chance on the outside.

Sorry Dianne - but if you friend believes this rubbish then she is not a very smart woman. Firstly the bub is nearly full term.... therefore it cannot be Prem. There is no way a full term baby can weigh a tiny 900gms. How the hell does a 900gm nearly full term baby survive of "Human Fat" .... what the hell is that anyway, a 900gm baby would have NO fat stores.

If she is indeed nearly full term then there is no reason why she cannot give birth at geelong (they take babies over 34 weeks?).

I was prem at 34 weeks and mums placenta was nothing more than a shrivelled grey ball I was basically starving and I STILL weighed 6lb 10oz ......

My 24 weeker was 577gms - so This couple from WA either have their information COMPLETELY wrong OR they are scam artists and I smell a scam. If she already had premmie babies she would have stuff!

I'd be inclined to print this up for your friend to read, I think she is being had!

I'd encourage her to help out by being there to support these people BUT she should NOT invest any money whatsoever.

I am getting 5 from a 1+1 sum, definately does not add up!

I agree, complete rubbish! With dd it was discovered at 36 weeks that my placenta had started to fail and bub had stopped growing. They sent me in for a c-section straight away, no wait and see, no scans each week. There's no way they would have let me go to full term when bub wasn't being fed! She was 2.8 kg at birth and HUNGRY poor little poppet!

900g is insane!! Sounds like a very cruel scam to me.

It's the cruelty of it that is upsetting me. It sounds like they are exploiting people using a sick baby sob story. I imagine it's upsetting to you too, seeing your friend being sucked in. Especially given your history. That's part of what is triggering me.

I still hope it's just miscommunication but it sounds dodgy. I wonder if they are scamming money and whether the police should be notified.

Sounds weird to me, Either they are misunderstanding what they are being told by the doctors, or it seems dodgy
