Awesome, thanks ladies. I hate it when you're going about life as normal and then someone 'in the know' (midwife) scares you like that.

I'll have to tell df the good news

Nothing you do will send you into labour unless your body is ready to labour basically.

Nipple/clitoral stimulation, hot curries, long walks and bumpy roads... pmsl All the same boat.

ETA: the sexual arousal things all release oxytocin, which is a major hormonal driver for labour. Hence why sex in early labour can be amazing and incredibly helpful. It also causes engorgement of the vagina, which increases the size of your birth canal (by up a good 2 cm ) and sends more blood to the uterus assisting with contractions efficacy.

Now if he was sucking vindaloo off your nipples while using a Rabbit, driving down a bumpy road after you drank castor oil.... I cannot be held responsible for the outcome...

I think it's only when your body is ready - or near ready - for labour, isn't it? Someone correct me if I'm wrong It's why I've been trying to keep my own hands away from my boobs since that scare last week
:yeahthat: I only did about 5 - 10 mins, possibly... probably coincidence but my waters broke next morning. I was 37 +2

Woo hoo! I think I'll be putting in an order for some nipple stimulation tonight then!

    This thread is hilarious!

Don't worry PZ, I'm still breastfeeding my DD so nipple stimulation happens multiple times a day here!

My DH only needs to kiss me and I start getting Braxton Hicks though...damn irritable uterus. I'm just loving the oxytocin flow atm! Woot!

I did my best to induce labour with nipple stimulation (using a breast pump) and it did seem to kick things off the night I went into labour, but it did nothing in the preceding week. If your body is not ready to labour then none of these natural methods will have much effect IMO.
