    Nipple weirdness?!

    Hi all,

not sure if any of you can offer an explanation... saw my doc today but had my pregga-brain in so of course forgot to ask her about this and several other things!

I'm 14 weeks pg and my bbs have grown quite a bit (yay! didn't have much at all before). In the past two weeks my nipples have become quite itchy. They're flaky and a bit dry, just on and underneath the middle bit (please excuse my complete anatomical ignorance but I don't know the name) and seem to be excreting something - it's whitish and kinda putty-texture, not liquid.

Is this my bbs just doing their thing in preparation for being milk machines, or is this not 'normal'?

this sounds fairly normal.. my bbs would excrete(booby cheese) then colostorum clear yellowy stuff.
for the drynessyou could use a body butter to try and stop the flaking but i wouldnt use it after bubs..

Mine have been itchy lately too, they were fine for a while and not sore at all, now they just itch! Little bit dry, but maybe that's just from me scratching...I know I shouldn't but it can be so irritating at times! Hopefully it's just another one of those things that will pass!

A very wise mummy told me to use a moisturiser/body butter on mine everyday... apparently keeps them nice and supple in preparation for BF'ing later on. And yes the 'putty' like stuff is normal - or 'booby cheese' as Ellibam called it

Same thing happened to me and my MIL suggested Lanoline and that seemed to ease the itchy feeling. Skin is growing and things are in production for your little one. It will eventually back off and come back and go through that process through out your pregnancy. As a rule I started using Vasoline Intensive Care on my bumps (belly, boobs and bump) and them after that I used baby oil to keep everything as soft and forgiving as possible and so far that has worked as I don't even have one stretch mark.
