    no heartbeat at 6.3 weeks?

Hi Guys, am asking this for a friend who is concerned at the moment.

She's at 6.3 weeks though her cycle was never regular so I think they may have her as being more advanced then she actually is.

There is a sac and there is apparently some growth, but no heartbeat at this stage. Are you meant to be able to find a heartbeat at this early stage?? I'd be grateful for anyone else's experience re. this.

    TIA!

heartbeat is usually seen between 6 and 7 weeks. But dates need to be accurate obviously

I though you could see a heart beat from 5wks.. But not 100% sure.. If she has had an U/S surely they would have been able to tell?? Has she been asked to go back for another U/S?

    Hi Neuri

Did the scan show her at 6 weeks, 3 days? or was that just going by the doctors dates?

I would tell her to stay positive, it's still very early :-) Such a tough time.

Thanks for your quick replies. It's such a sticky time, isn't it!

I don't know if the 6.3 weeks is according to her cycle dates or whether that was from the doc's measurement of things via the u/s. Would having an anterior placenta affect the ability to measure things accurately?

They did a transvaginal u/s which I thought was pretty accurate? She had a second scan on Sat (6.3 weeks) and since there was still nothing, they asked her to come back this Wed for another u/s. Didn't help that a horrid nurse told her to fast the night before because they were probably going to have to do a d&c anyway. God, talk about lack of tact!

    geez what an awful nurse!!!
it could still be too early to see a heartbeat... every day counts at that stage. i hope it works out for her.
ps i am not an expert but i wouldnt think the placenta would have much to do with it at that early stage
