Red face Pitting Oedema - Should I be worried?

Normally I get swelling after being at work & sitting behind the desk all day which was the case on Tuesday. However it usually goes down over the next day or two. It hasn't been hot & I've walked a fair bit on Wednesday & Thursday but the swelling is still there. Today & last night the swelling was pitting - when I put pressure on it, it leaves a dent for around 20-30 seconds. My last antenatal appointment was two weeks ago & my BP was slightly higher than usual, but nothing bad & I has leuk (??) written for my urine test.

I tried ringing my GP and he's not there on Fridays so I called the hospital. I spoke to antenatal who said I needed to speak to delivery, fair enough. But the delivery phone just kept ringing & after six minutes I gave up on waiting for them.

So should I be concerned? Should I just keep trying to get onto delivery & see what they say or is it something I shouldn't worry too much about? The next time I can get in contact with my GP is Monday. Otherwise I can try to talk to someone else at his clinic????

Sarah, when's your next ANC appointment?
When i was had pitting oedema a few weeks ago & couldn't get into my GP they asked me to go into delivery to have BP & urine checked. BUT that may have been moreso for my reassurance than their concern (i was in tears on the phone!). They also did a CTG. How about headaches, and have you been 'seeing stars' at all?
My feet and legs, and headaches, have got progressively worse over the last three weeks and only just seen protein and raised BP yesterday.
Might be worth going in - if you can get onto delivery!! It's bit slack that noone answered the phone in that long - of course they're busy but what if you were in labour??!?!
    Good luck

Sarah, I thinkin the mean time you should go and lay down with your feet elevaled. Although I never suffered from fluid retention while pg, I used to lay on the floor with my legs straight up a wall... feels great! Maybe even get a massage This should get rid of some of the fluid

    Good luck

Sarah, i would definitely get it checked out. I hope that you have gotten hold of the delivery suite by now. Def need to have your BP checked and protein for sure. The leuk on your last urine test means there are some white cells in the urine, possibly from cross contamination- from skin shedding when you passed urine or from your hands. Or from infection. The swelling should have eased a bit by now (from work on Tues), and the fact that it is pitting is a worry. Like Tanya said, keep your legs up until you find out more. Not easy with Zander!!
    Hope everything is ok.

Just got back from visiting a friend (had her bub on Wednesday) and am going to try my Dr again & speak to someone else at 2pm when they get back from lunch. They will probably think I'm being ridiculous as the swelling isn't too bad - my left foot is normal & my right is only slightly puffy, if you didn't know what they normally looked like (boney & veins sticking out) thne you'd never think there was anything wrong!! Still going to try though.

No other symptoms, hands or face aren't swollen, not spots, no headaches. I was a little light headed & dizzy yesterday which is usually from low BP so that doesn't make sense either! Next appointment the 27th.

Feet up, drink more.... I haven't been drinking enough so that's making it worse

I had it pretty much from week 24 up to birth, and if you put your feet up they need to be above heart level. Although when I was at school thats a bit hard to do so I made do with just having them up on a chair while teaching but at home I would lie down for at least 30 mins when I got home to get the swelling down. I also found doing aqua aerobics helped as being submersed in water up to at least chest heights helps as well! We called them my play doh feet Good luck!
