    NT Scan without Bloodwork

    Hi guys,

just had a follow up appt with my GP after having my NT scan and found out that i cannot get a risk assesment because we didnt do bloods! i dont remember doing the bloods with DD so didnt even think to ask! but last time i got a risk assesment...so i must of??

anyway, the NF came back good at 1.7mm but of course this isnt any garuantee... was just wondering if others have found themselves in similar situations and what they did?

i am also slightly annoyed that i didnt know about the bloodwork...my GP told me he only offers it really to women over 35, but then i wonder why he referred me for a NT scan if i dont actually get any risk assessment? seems a bit silly...

    TIA!

Can you do the bloodwork now or is it too late? You're right, it is silly to have one without the other. Also it would just increase the stress. Though 1.7mm is very good.

I know there is 2nd trimester bloodwork that can be done if you miss the 1st trimester ones. Can't remember the details but I know it's on a Vic government site.

I got caught with this as well. Didn't know about it, and was reminded the day before my scan that my bloods were supposed to have been done at least 3 days before. My dr didn't even give my a blood test referral. How far are you now? Do you still have time?
ETA: just saw your ticker, probably out of date range now for the bloods.

The only time I had that scan I never had the bloods done either. My Dr was happy enough with the scan results. I didn't even know that there were blood tests to go with it till I read about it on here once.

There is the triple screen blood test that you can have done 15 to 20 weeks (16 to 18 weeks is the most accurate) pregnant. I had this done with DD when we lived in Namibia - they didn't do what they do over here ..if you google 'triple screen blood test' it will give you info.

    Good luck.

I never knew you could get blood tests until I read it on here too. I never had bloods with either of the boys. In fact...I think of my friends, only the older ones got blood tests alongside. Re: risk assessment, it's possible some see the NT result and say 'yeah no worries there' and that's risk assessment. I think that's how it happened for me.

Perhaps it's not standard for younger women? It never struck me as necessary. I'm sure if it's something you really want you can ask for it. xo
