The only time I had that scan I never had the bloods done either. My Dr was happy enough with the scan results. I didn't even know that there were blood tests to go with it till I read about it on here once.
There is the triple screen blood test that you can have done 15 to 20 weeks (16 to 18 weeks is the most accurate) pregnant. I had this done with DD when we lived in Namibia - they didn't do what they do over here ..if you google 'triple screen blood test' it will give you info.
I never knew you could get blood tests until I read it on here too. I never had bloods with either of the boys. In fact...I think of my friends, only the older ones got blood tests alongside. Re: risk assessment, it's possible some see the NT result and say 'yeah no worries there' and that's risk assessment. I think that's how it happened for me.
Perhaps it's not standard for younger women? It never struck me as necessary. I'm sure if it's something you really want you can ask for it. xo
Yeah the two together gives you the risk. I guess you can rest assured the NT fold was very average and not considered thick at all so that alone should give you a lowered risk.
i guess it is one of those things that i thought i had prepared for, but am annoyed that it wasnt IYKWIM. we have had DS in the family so it kinda is the one thing that i am aware of ITMS...
ah well, i'll chat to DH tonight about it and see if i can get the later bloodwork done instead....
That particular scan looks for all sorts of things, bones in the little finger, nasal bone, palet (sp)- roof of mouth, spine ect.
So its not just for the DS.
FWIW, I have a downs cousin, and apparently, it is just a random mutation, not relly genetic, although they always asked me about it
C, mind you I was only 24 at the time so there was probably no need. Plus my Dr said he was only sending me to meet his quota for referrals that month ROFL. Otherwise he said he rarely bothered sending women for the NT scan unless they were in a risk group. There are other more accurate ways anyway, like Amnio and CVS
