Odd feeling every now & then like I'm going to black out :( ??
Every now & then I get this funny feeling like I'm going to pass out. It has happened before I was pregnant but Im finding its happening a bit more often lately.
It starts like a funny fatigued feeling in my muscles & I find it hard to concentrate, then a prikly feeling that seems to roll up my back & neck. And then my vision starts to recede & it's like Im getting further & further away from where I actually am. I blink my eyes & shift my feet, roll my neck, but nothing seems to really stop it once it starts.
I have to actually go and sit down & deep breathe & have a cold drink of water.
I don't want to bring it up un-necessarily to my midwife coz I'm already border-line to birth at my local hospital & don't want to get sent 3hrs away, but's its worrying me a little bit as it used to be just when I had been standing for quite a while, but it happened this morning when I was getting dressed for work even.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?? I'm wondering if it could be a nerve pinching or whether my body is low on something?
ETA: I should say that all my blood work has been normal so far, no high blood pressure, blood sugar etc.
i used to get really lightheaded early on in this pregnancy, but it sounds a bit different with you. i know you're reluctant, but it does actually sound like something you should enquire about. i was going to say it sounds like it could be blood sugar, but if you think they're fine, i dunno.....could you visit your local GP before bringing it up with your midwife if you're worried about being transferred?
I had this when pregnant with the twins. I was trying to emigrate at the time and my GP banned me from thinking about the move for more than an hour a day. He said if I had a thought about something I had to action to write it down and deal with it at my allotted time. It really did make a difference. Obviously this was after checking that I was no anaemic, low blood pressure, etc.
It's definitely worth mentioning to your midwife, but in the absence of a physical ailment is there anything worrying you at the moment that might be stressing you out a little?
Yeah Im a bit stressed at the moment. We are trying to sell our car, buy a new one & we are also looking to buy our own place so we can get out of renting, which is just as stressful sometimes I think.
Mum2onesweetbun - I often wonder about low blood sugar, but nothing's really been wrong or out in my tests so I didn't think any more of it. Is it possible that it drops when I have one of these episodes & then would be fine most other times? Did you have specific symptoms that you noticed?
I've had tests in the past which are clear. However even before I was pregnant, I try eat low to medium GI foods and eat 6-8 small meals a day. This evens out your blood sugar levels.
My partner is hopeless because he eats one and a half large meals a day, he doesn't realise that I need to eat. So sometimes I buy a packet of jellybeans.
During my first trimester I passed out everyday from dehydration and no food. I have been told though (from IVF clinic I think) that it can sometimes happen if all of a sudden you get a sudden rush of blood to your uterus and hence you arent getting enough to your brain! If you are worried perhaps bring it up but the best way to get the blood back to your brain is to lay down with your feet elevated above head level. it can be pretty scary though
Try the notebook trick then. Take a pad of paper or notebook everywhere with you and when you think of something you need to do wrt house move and car sales/purchse write it down. Then give yourself an hour a day in which to deal with what is written down. It really helped my dizzy spells doing this. Also keep a packet of lollies with you to give yourself a sugar shot if you feel faint. But mention to your midwife that you are feeling like this because she will be able to rule out anything medical being the cause of these dizzy spells.
