looks like unlike his/her mummy your bubba loves surprises :
Today I had an ultrasound to check for gallbladder issues, and I asked the guy if he minded checking the gender if he had time.
When we had our 18 week scan, the guy (different one obviously) said that he couldn't see anything to indicate it was a boy, so said it was a girl. We asked if he would double check and he refused. We asked him for the odds of it being a girl and he wouldn't give us more than 50%.
So fast forward to today, I ask the guy to do it and he looks. Bub isn't in a great position but he says to me that there are characteristics of both genders (like WTF does that mean anyway) but that he was leaning towards it being a boy. Then he said we will just have to find out the old fashioned way.
So now I'm all screwed up cos I've prepared myself for having a girl. And what if he's wrong? Is it easier to see the gender at 35 weeks than 18 weeks?? And I'm sure hd was a radiologist, not just a sonographer, so would that make him better at his job than the sonographer from the public hospital? I went private for this scan. Argh I'm so confused and I just want to know cos I hate surprises! Lol

oh dear.. you poor thing
I know how much you have worried about this and mentally prepared yourself for a girl..
I would say more clearer to see at 35 weeks as more developed etc. but harder due to room restrictions.
ohh did they find any gall stones??
Nope no gallstones.
Oh mann, nothing like a bit of excitement. I don't think I could hold off til the birth to find out, I recon I'd be dragging my big butt down to a non diagnostic 3D ultrasound place to put myself out of my misery (I hate hanging, Lol)
Bub was probably just in a awkward possie so was hard for the radiographer to tell either way.
I had that with DD2 they said it look like a girl but that could also be a "small" boy. So sometimes they can be hard to tell even for someone that is experianced
Oh don't you just Hate that!!
If you have the option (I'm not sure if you have a private OB or not), as the Ob to write a referral for a growth scan.
You should be able to get one done, and then get them to check again.
I had one done at 30 weeks cause I was getting all stressed out about being given 2 different answers, and my Ob decided that it was best to check again for fear I'd get high blood pressure from the stress of not knowing LOL
He said to tell the people it was a dating/growth scan for medicare purposes.
Where'd you go for the scan? It would be unusual for a radiologist to do the ultrasound at an imagine place...... Could it have been a male sonographer? Even if it was a radiologist, they spend years at medical school and 5 minutes learning ultrasound, so sonographers 'generally' have better practical skills. Not always of course, some radiologist specialise in imaging.
The genitals would be more developed and perhaps easier to see now but depending on baby position etc, it can still be tricky.
I'd be ****ed off if someone told me that my baby had traits of both?! WTF is that all about? He should have said, 'i can't tell' if he didn't know.
Any gall stones??? eta- no gall stones, thats a bonus.
Nah no OB here. I have an IM.
And you can't get 3d scans done here in launceston unless it is for a growth scan and has to be referred by a GP and they would never grant me one.
Eta- JM, I went to a private hospital with the imaging place joined to it. The first time was through the public hospital. I didn't even know he was a radiologist until DH told me as we were leaving.
I would go and get someone to tell you once and for all. If he was doing an abdo ultrasound for gallbladder issues it's quite possible he is not experienced in obstetric ultrasound.
oh no hunni, that really doesnt help u at all!
didnt u have a feeling it was a boy to start with?
ihope u canget another scan asap (free)
otherwise i guess it is the supprise that will be a real supprise!!
Oh no!
If I were you I would go and get another ultrasound or two! :P
It cant hurt, and at least then you will know for sure!
Personally I'd be sticking with the 20 week scan when there was no real doubts like this scan. But wow!
It seems you're not supposed to know![]()
Don't fight it and look forward to your wonderful surprise!![]()
oh no!
I guess at least you have a heads up now incase it IS a boy, it would be MUCH harder to deal with if you gave birth to a boy who you thought was going to be a girl!!
sorry, I'm probably not helping!!
How frustrating!!!! Glad you don't have gallstones, but ARGH!
If it were me, I'd be going to get another scan because I'd go crazy not knowing... BUT maybe it's like Nettie said, and you're not meant to know?!!!
I'm a bit confused by the characteristics of both comment- but glad that it has all the essential components that both genders share![]()
Well I think hes a noob.
