People don’t like the veins in my legs – PEOPLE, I DON’T CARE!

My legs have been on show a bit lately because it’s hot, I’m hot, and I’m much more comfortable in shorts/skirt/dress rather than pants/jeans. The veins in my legs are quite prominent. I’ve got a massive clump of spider veins down at one of my ankles (they really hurt, they throb like a bruise) spider veins in other places on my legs and some big, chunky, blue varicose veins as well (these ones don’t hurt). I’m not self-conscious about them, I really don’t care, I care about the ones that hurt but otherwise the look of them doesn’t bother or upset me. *Meh*.

My leg veins are MUCH worse when I’m pregnant, I know they will go down significantly once this baby is out. When I’m finished breastfeeding I will go and get them dealt with by a vascular surgeon. They run in the family, on both sides, both my Mum and Aunt have recently had theirs done and are really happy with the results.

I have compression stockings that do help a bit (but not really that much) but there are really uncomfortable and there is no way I’m wearing them in this weather, they’re not worth it.

Now here’s my point, I’m somewhat surprised by the amount of attention my legs have been getting, mostly from people that don’t know me very well. Sometimes they gasp and say “What happened to your legs?” but this conversation with a lady at work the other day takes the cake.

Her: “OMG what’s wrong with your legs?”
Me: “Yeah, when I’m pregnant the veins are really prominent, they’ll go down once the baby is out.”
    Her: “Do they hurt?”
Me: “These ones do (spider veins), these ones are fine (varicose veins).”
Her: “Shouldn’t you be wearing compression stockings?”
Me: “Yeah probably, but they don’t really make that much difference and it’s too hot.”
Her: “You could wear them under jeans.”
    Me: “Umm it’s 36 degrees today, I’m pregnant, there’s no air-conditioning, I don’t think so.”
Her: “Well isn’t there something else you can do about them?”
    Me: “No.”
    Her: “What about surgery?”
Me: “Umm yeah, well not right now.”

And I had to walk away, she was going to keep going. My legs were obviously offending her. Too bad, so sad lady!

Seriously! What business is it of hers? The things people feel it is their right to comment on.

I have some veins too and have had a few comments this summer - standing all day at my old job and then pregnancy made mine worse plus my Mum is veiny too...

Even my SIL said - "gee, where did your veins come from" ?? Bizarre question but anyhoo....

Sorry they offend you - dont look at my legs if it's that bad !

Some people just don't get it !

Some times I just want to come back with something like "You know that mole on your *insert visible body part here* well my cousin had a mole that looked just like that but it was really *insert some horrible disease name here*. Yeah it ate into the body part and they had to cut it off. You should get it seen to"

Hehehe... Yep, I was the bigger person, I took my legs with my offensive veins and walked away, just so I didn’t have to kick her in the head.

Some people are just nuts aren’t they.

No one ****s with me when I'm pregnant on a hot day! Good on you for trying to be comfortable when you have a radiator growing in your uterus! People need to think before they shoot their mouth off!
