Cool Dating scans - Urgent help please

Can anyone please tell me when the most accurate time is for a dating scan is???

Obviously i dont need my pregnancy dated lol as i am 36 weeks.
But i had a scan done at about 5 weeks, and it put my EDD date being 7th September.

I was under the impression that the most accurate time is between 7 and 9 weeks.
I had a repeat scan done at about 8 weeks and it gave me an EDD being 10-11th September.

I realise there isnt much difference, but my hospital wants to carry out a repeat c section and they are taking the EDD as the 7th sept, they want to do the c section at 38 weeks, if they use the date of 7th sept then he coupld be coming out closer to 37 weeks i dont want the baby out early of course so i really want to be armed with the best information so i can negotiate my birth plan.

Does anyone have any ideas? or any research into the best time?
    TIA

My GP i had with DD2 sent me when i was around 7 weeks...and the date i was given then was 21 oct.....then my 18 weeks scan said 23 oct. But Gp always said the best time is between 6-8 weeks.

If you dont want a c/s say no...its your body!

    ETA:
The best time to have a scan is from about 7 weeks’ gestation

I would always go with the later date. You have every right to explain that you want to go with the later date for the c/s because you understand the risks associated with having a c/s too early.

I agree with Christy... I had a Preterm c/sect & had to spend time in the NICU... If you dont need to be there... then why risk it.... thats my thoughts anyways...

Why are they doing a c/sect? Is there a medical reason for you or bubs? If so they should be monitoring you both anyways???

Otherwise.. can they do another scan & try & estimate from that.. or maybe it is a little too late LOL..

The date they gave you at the earlier scan is supposed to be the most accurate but in my case I went a week and 4 days earlier than it and it turned out to be closer to the date I was given at the 12 week scan.

Technically the earlier scan would be more accurate. However, we are talking fractions of mm making a difference of a day or so. And 8 weeks is still early enough to have an accurate dating scan.

I too would argue that you were given a later date at an 8 week scan, which is still an accurate time to date a pregnancy, and you would feel more comfortable going by that date rather than your earlier one.

    Good luck.

    Thanks everyone!!!!

Mitch, its a pain in the bum why they want to do a c section. But basically, because I fell pregnant 11 months after i had an emergency c section with #1DS i have not waited long enough for my scar to heal ebough for a vbac, so my risk of uterine rupture increases. Do not worry, i am very well educated about this now, and i know its safe to say that its a crock.

So am i right in beleiving that I have the choice about when the due date is taken as? If i dont want to use the 7th then its my choice?

Sorry to sound a bit silly, but i went into spontanious labour with my first, and never had to really be concerned about "due dates"

so u were preg 11 months after but by time baby comes your first child will be nearly 2 years old is that right??

If that is it the are screwing u over!! argue point of it means a lot to you to have a VBAC if u r happy with cs dont stress then but do ask to use later date.

I had a c/sect with Alexa & was told to wait 6 months before getting pregnant again ( not that things have planed out that way LOL)... after 11 months things should be well & truly healed.... surely

I would definately be telling them to go by the later date - it is only a couple of days later and if there is no urgent reason why baby has to be out earlier, then he is better off in than out.

    Yay Mummatotwo!!!!
Just to let you know - it definately is a crock! My births will be 16.5 mths apart so I fell pregnant only 7-8 mths after my c/s and my hospital is happy for me to attempt my VBAC. There is a "slightly" increased risk if you are attempting a VBAC prior to an 18 mth gap due to letting the scar heal (I fall short by 1.5 mths!) but the increased risk in almost all cases is not enough to warrant a repeat c/s. HtH.

So what did you say ? Can you tell I'm too lazy to go searching

And yes, you are well within your rights to refuse a c section, or refuse the dating they wanted to go by.

Goodluck hun and have faith in your body. It knows what it needs to do
