thanks for the advice girls, I will try to take it (as best i can with a toddler to look after). pity SAHMs cann't take sick days.
I've been getting strong headache type pains behind my eyes on and off today, which only last for a few seconds, but are quite horrible.
Has anyone had anything similar to this?
I have had these through all of my pregnancies, if you are worried about it, talk to your ob or gp about it, i just used to go to bed and put a warm wheatbag over my eyes, it really helped
I hope it eases for you soon!
thanks Naomi - they havent been as bad today, but I'll mention them to my ob on my appointment at Wednesday just to be safe
I had this too. Drink plenty of water. My GP's answer to everything was "Drink lots of water" there's not much else you can take...
Ann
I had this once and thought I needed new glasses so visited my optometrist. Turns out you can get a sinus infection in your tear ducts/eyes that causes this sort of pain. Your GP might be able to give you antibiotics - which is what I got.
Hi guys,
I get really bad headaches too... have been told is migraines... I am usually bad around my period so I am sure is hormonal. Mine go on for days I had one from Thursday night until Monday morning... I work in front of the computer and that seems to set it off... when I get them like yesterday I can't even move if I am lying down or sitting in a quite room I am fine as soon as I get up and stat walking around it sets them off... I get really pale feel hopeless… Panadol doesn't do much... I got prescribed Inderal 20mg in the morning and 20 at night by my GP 2 weeks ago in consultation over the phone with a specialist I am seeing tomorrow but I am a bit worried about this medication the GP told my it was safe but I Google it and it says it can cause foetal abnormalities, apparently it lowers your blood pressure (which mine was fine last time) anyways I took it on Friday and it didn't do much so I didn't take it again cause I got worried. Has anyone taken this medication? and does anyone now of any safe natural methods? like lavender? or migraine stick?
sorry mel, I haven't taken any medication except panadol (which was useless) so i cann't help you with that. maybe you should get a second opinion if you are concerned - or even just ask your pharmacist.
I got told that my headaches were probably viral, as the flu is going around canberra and my DH and DD had it, and I got it later; but that if the headache should come back i should go to the hospital and get my urine checked for protien, even if my blood pressure is low (i have to be careful as my blood pressure gets really low during pregnancy).
Sorry to hear about your headaches Misty. I hope they're starting to go and that it's just this awful bug that's going around.
Keep your OB or midwife up to date with how you're coping. It may be linked to something else.
I hope Jelly gives you a little bit of a break - can someone care for her for an hour or two so you can get some sleep?
*hugs*
Thanks Misty. I went to see the specialist and he was very good. I hope the headaches go away soon. it is a common side effect and Inderal is a safe preventive. so if the headaches don't go away after week 20 I might try it. you take it twice a day for 3 weeks and then they should go away. He also said in some women oranges & chocolate can cause migranies. I have really been craving oranges (they are so juicy) and eating like 2 or 3 a day so I am going to give them a break for a few weeks to see if they go away. xx Mel
hi, im 21 weeks pregnant and just wondering if it is ok if i can take panadol for a head ache ive had for 2 days?
.....
Yes, panadol, even panadeine is safe in pregnancy.
But as Rolymogs said, you should just double check your BP etc. I went through bad migraines around the 14 week mark which lasted for around 10 weeks, but they have cleared up, and i was taking panadeine and other pain killers every day (under the supervision of my obs)
The only one you should avoid is nurofen, which is not paracetamol based.
Yep panadol is fine, I used to take it sometimes I would get horrible hormone headaches - just dull aches that would last for a couple of days. No fun :(
As all the others have said panadol is safe
Thank you, i think that i just needed a good night sleep, i had a big weekend, i have now cought up on my sleep, hoping that was my problem.
yup panadol is fine, Herron specifically states that it's ok for pregnant women. I've taken them as pg has been giving me headaches as well, and they've lasted a few days. Once I've taken them it goes away. But yes, as the girls said, if you are worried check with your GP that your BP is ok.
I can't remember but can you have panadene or panadene forte while pregnant? What about Asprin?
I was prescribed with Panadeine Forte when I was 36 weeks pg. I would double check with your Dr though just because you are only early days.
Tegan I thought it was just Panadol only.... not panadeine forte thats much stronger i thought? esp for early pregnancy maybe after 3mths its ok?
No for asprin, only paracetamol. So check the label of the painkillers. But try to "cope" as long as possible. Rather take a nap (if possible) or do some meditation (if that is your thing)
i've just been through the whole drama of working out painkillers due to ttc and the whole 'maybe i'm pg' thing - i dislocated my arm and the only option was panadol - panadeine if absolutely necessary - but preferably not. i'm glad my doc was so thorough in checking everything out as to what i could and couldn't take - but sheesh - a dislocated wrist and panadol as my only option - not much help really!
Panadol only.
aww bumma. Panadol does nothing for me! I have a really really bad headache that won't go away :(
try peppermint oil and rub on your temples but DONT get it near your eyes it stings....
you can buy peppermint sticks especially for migraines at chemists and maybe woolies too? i recommend you give that a go Tegan :)
You can't use peppermint in pregnancy unfortunatly.
definitely no aspirin hun as it thins your blood.
Panadeine is OK only in very small doses and only if really necessary. Same with panadeine forte under STRICT doctor's orders.
I found the best way to fix a headache....and it really really works:
Get a fluffy hand towel and thoroughly wet it and then wring it out. Place it in the microwave until it is steaming and burning hot.
Wait until you can just bear to touch it and wrap it around your neck and pull tightly. Mainly around the back of your neck.
This will increase the blood flow up to your head and should give instant relief
let me know how you go xxx
A definite no no to aspirin, panadol is OK and panadeine and panadeine forte only under Dr's advice. I had some horrid ongoing dental work done when I was 16 weeks prg and my OB gave me a script for panadeine forte. I used panadol mainly but panadiene forte for 2 nights to get some rest.
Panadol is fine
Panadine is ok
Panadine Forte dont use too often
Keep away from aspirin
Danni
I like your tip with the wet towel
it really works alan, but its gotta be hot!!
I suffer from bad headaches lasting days over the counter drugs do not help
Try a website Googling " Pain free Egoscue" The exercises do really help even doing a few has made a big difference for me.
Anyone have a suggestion for something stronger than Panadol that doesn't have Codeine in it?? I'm allergic to Codeine :( Danni's trick has helped, but not enough.
Not sure if its accessable to you(or if you're into this kinda thing)...
But mixing essential oils of 3 drops of lavender and 2 drops of camomile in a base oil(like sweet almond) of about 10mil and massage it around your temples, neck and shoulders.
Bummer, shops closed, but I'll get those tomorrow, thanks Tegan :)
has anyone tried nurofen migraine? I know it says it is safe for breastfeeding (it really works!)
Wouldn't it have the same ingredients as the regular nurofen that's not allowed in pregnancy though?
another suggestion is accupuncture- esp a gyno/ob one- work wonders
if anyone want details of a melb based one- just PM me!
odette
from the back of the "nurofen migraine" box:
Do not take:
* During pregnancy except with your doctors advice
* during the last 3 months of pregnancy
So maybe check with your doc and you should be able to take it apart frmo the last tri?
OMG Mabello I love you!! I said to Aaron last night if you were closer I'd drive over & kiss you LOL! Last night I had such a bad headache that it was making me feel nauseaus & I thought my head was going to explode. I remembered this trick & tried it again (last time I don't think it was hot enough). But OMG the relief was fantastic. My headache didn't completely go, but I was able to move my eyes without pain & could actually function again!!
Thank you thank you.
i am so glad it helped you sarah!!
the hotter the better-- and although it burns for a few seconds, it really works :)
