Pseudoephedrine (sp) and Ibuprofen while pregnant?

Have a beautiful raging virus atm...very congested.

I have some Sudafed leftover from my last nasty bug - about 7 months ago - and it's not something I usually resort to unless I am *very* uncomfortable, but I am, and I'd like to breathe.

Is it okay to take? I'm nearly in 3rd tri.

Oh and also - Ibuprofen? Box says not in 3rd tri, is this correct or over cautious? Again, not something I usually resort to, but I did today and managed to get a 2 hour nap.

Stay away from the Ibuprofen. It really won't do much anyway. You can take panadol, but you are better off with a hot cup of tea lemon and honey.
Not sure on the Sudafed, I would suggest that it would not be terribly suitable, but one dose may be fine.

Lots of Vicks, even one of those inhaler sticks, work wonders.

Ibuprofen Catergory C (Drugs which have been suspected of causing harm), sometimes used by specialists but can be a problem with the foetal circulation if taken in the days before birth. So not really overly cautious on the box but not a problem if birth is not imminent so you should be ok

Pseudoephidrine Catergory B2 (taken by a limited number of pregnant women with no adverse effects documented, animal studies lacking or inconclusive)- Avoid use in pregnancy, but probably would be ok.

I'd avoid Ibuprofen in the future, panadol is safe safe safe, panadeine would help a little with congestion, but the truth is pseudoephidrine is more than likely fine too

    Hope you feel better soon

Eeek thanks I'll stay away from the Ibuprofen!!!

Just found my Vicks yesterday...might be time for a good coating of it, I think.

No honey for tea, damn vegans, but I'll see what I can find :-D

If it's your nose stuffed up, claratyne is a cat B and I used it for the last 3-4 weeks of pg because my nose was sooo stuffed up I couldn't bear it and claratyne is the safest antihistamine in 3rd trimester,

    Def stay away from ibuprofen!!

I don't think either of those are safe in pregnancy.

Your best bet is to ring a local chemist and talk to a pharmacist so they can check their little book thingy for you

MIMS and Australian Medicines Handbook report B2, not sure which website you looked at but Mel's idea of checking with the pharmacy is the best one. they are always happy to help. Anything on the net...including BB forums may not be correct.
