    Raspberry Leaf Dosage?

    Hi there,

Does anyone know what the recommended daily dose of raspberry leaf should be in the third trimester? I'm taking Blackmores tablets, where each is equivalent to 300mg, and I've been instructed to take three of these up to four times daily - which seems like a lot! Does anyone have a definitive number? Or should I just be guided by the amount/intensity of Braxton Hicks I experience after?

    Thank you!

If you are taking the tablets - I would go with the recommended dose on the bottle - they are meant for helping tone the uterus, so you don't wanna o/d on them LOL. Who has instructed you - a caregiver or the person in the health food shop?

I have used loose tea and raspberry leaf tincture so can't help more with the tablets.

I'm really bad and tend to self-prescribe! I just had a chat to the person in the health food store, and also took a look at the instructions on the bottle. The bottle actually tells you to take three tablets five times a day - that's quite a dose, and I feel a bit nervous about taking so much! I would take the tea, but I'm not sure how nice it will be to ingest hot beverages in the middle of summer. Have you found taking raspberry leaf effective? I suppose there's no easy way to tell, is there?

This is my personal experience and opinion only -

#1 - did tea - contractions still didn't get regular so after 2 days of on/off/on/off and exhaustion, put on synto drip/epidural/forceps - yuk

#2 - did tea, waters broke, no contractions after 36 hours still, synto drip - birth ok

#3 - took raspberry leaf tincture instead of tea that my acupuncturist made for me - waters broke, contractions didn't start for 24 hours (must be my body) - and when they did they were absolutely text book with a 6 hour labour from start to finish and a beautiful birth ...

So in my opinion, the tincture was the best - regulated dose - easy to take, and distilled pure leaf so more natural (but it is distilled in vodka LOL but the amount you have of course is like 2 drops) I started on the tincture a around 36 weeks - increased daily dosage every week, acpuncture at 38 weeks and same day my waters broke!!.

    Hey there,

I can help you now! I asked my Obs and she said just to follow the dose recommended by the health food shop.

The reason you take so many of the Blackmores ones is because the concentration is quite low. There are other, higher dosage ones you can buy - which I'm looking into now. Fields of Gold I think the other one is called!

Oh, I might have my acupuncturist make up some raspberry leaf tincture for me, then. It sounds much nicer than having to take all those tablets every day - thanks so much, ladies!

Tincture is like a brew - it is leaf distilled in vodka (preferable base) - or something else can be used, but for the amount you take I didn't consider it a problem.

You then start with say 2 drops twice a day in a bit of warm water - so you dont have to drink cup loads of tea or keep buying tablets.

My practitioner charged $15 for 50ml - I took it for 2 weeks, bought another bottle and only needed one more dose LOL.

Herbs of Gold make a tablet that's 2g each. I've been told to take 2 a day by the naturopath that prescribed them

I would go for the Herbs of Gold brand too, easier dosage and much more cost effective in the long run. They are about $20 a jar, but online I have seen them at almost half that price

this might sound like a really stupid question - but when are you supposed to take this tea (ie. how preg shoud you be) and what is it meant to do?
