Ok... so it's my first cold since getting pregnant & it's kinda sucky not being able to take anything!! My face & jaw just aches (from the pressure in my sinuses).
I know I can rub in vicks & take panadol - but is there anything else? Are vicks vapodrops ok? Any other handy hints?
Just thought i'd let ya know, i hears ya! I have had a shocking 2 weeks, cold and asthma all together. i have coughed so much i have a little hernia in my belly button! i have had about 2hrs sleep a night from the coughing!
Besides ventolin, I have been sucking on soothers, using vicks, also inhaling vicks in boiling water, and using a gross nasal spray thing called Fess, it is a saline solution with a little eucalyptus available from the pharmacy. It loosens and removes at the gross stuff from your sinus. Bit off i know!
Oh i also tried a cough syrup that didnt work. But if you ask your pharmacist, they are pretty good at recommending things......
Hope you're feeling better!
I can't give you any suggestions but I'll feel for you. I'm currently getting scared because I've been experiencing a scratchy feeling in my throte. I really hope it's from snoring and I'm not coming down with something
Thanks everybody! I'm still a little bit sniffly, but the face aches have eased off. I actually ended up putting a hot water bottle on my face, which looked kinda funny (and made it hard to watch TV, because I had to take my glasses off!) - but it helped with the aches in my face. I also rubbed vicks onto my chest. But the Dr said not to use vicks vapodrops, because there have not been any studies done about their safety in pregnancy (so that was a bit sad!).
Ezz - I just asked the GP about this this morning, coz I'm dreading having the sinus headaches I had last time. The only relief I got was a cold washer on my face all night.
But the doc said that I can use Polaramine (it's an antihistamine), it's category A (safe in pg) and also rhinocort nasal spray, also category A. I didn't realise these had been categorised! She looked it up while I was there.. she also checked for breastfeeding too for me.
She recommended Fess as preventative rather than for curing an existing problem. She said once I sort out the pains in my sinuses then to clean them out regularly with Fess to prevent build up and infection.
Thanks for that Liz! I'll check out polaramine next time. Sadly I'm kinda prone to colds & sinus problems - so I guess it may be a regular feature of my pg!!
