    Default Single umbilical artery

    Hi,

I have just found out that my baby has a single umbilical artery instead of 2. All else looks normal via ultrasound and I had an extremely low risk of chromosomal abnormalities when I had the NT scan. The ob seems to think that it's an isolated case of a single umbilical artery and it is probably nothing to worry about. But of course I am worried anyway! Has anyone else experienced this?

Any stories are appreciated. I am a bit freaked out.

    Hi Gin,

There are often babies born with one artery and one vein in the umbi cord. When bubs is born they may ask you to go for an ultrasound on your baby's kidneys as sometimes this is associated with kidney problems but not very often. More often than not there are no problems and baby is fine.

Try not to worry too much I'm sure you are in good hands and you will be refered to a paed if needs be.
