    Unhappy Size of Belly Rant

OK so on Wednesday i hit the 28 week mark, and in the last week alone i've had half a dozen people or more comment on how "small" my belly is for how far along i am.... at my last Ob app i had only put on about 4kgs in total, but the baby is doing great, very active and healthy, the right size and all that. It just made me feel like crap! Obviously the bubby is just very comfy tucked in my belly towards the back? My hubby says not to worry about it - but why does everyone feel like its their right to comment on the size of my belly. I know it sounds silly, but i just can't seem to let it go! ok. Rant over. Maybe.

I know how you feel, only the opposite. I had people tell me at 32 weeks i was ready to pop, and all sorts of unhelpful opinions on how Jazz would be 10+lbs, that i'd go early, and even that there might be something wrong... Some people are just nosey and rude!!!!

Unfortunately it doesn't stop, everyone has opinions on everything once you're pregnant. You'll have to browse around, theres a few threads about great comebacks

Try not to worry about what others say, for some reason everyone has an opinion....grrrrrr. I got a lot of that too when pregnant with DS, my MIL even had me stressed for a week as she said the baby must be lying the wrong way & that's why I was so small. Everyone is different & that's what people need to realise before opening their mouths!!!!
I spoke to my midwife & she just laughed, then went on to say that as I was young & it my first the skin is still very tight & it wont pop out right away.........& that next time around I won't be able to hide it past 12wks!!!! WRONG!!! I'm now 14wks with my second & hardly have a bump.

When people comment on how tiny I am, I just kindly remind them its prob because I am throwing up 24/7.......usually stops the conversation.

If you had a bigger bump - they would comment on that too Not to mention the comments you will get when your baby arrives Now is the time to practice saying "thank you" with a smile - even if you want to forehead slap them

I don't know what it is, but EVERYONE seems to comment on the size of your belly when you're pg. It must be the thing to do or something? I am constantly told I am not that big and I just say "I know, I'm so glad!" LOL!

This is my third pregnancy and I've had size comments each time - "Are you sure it's not twins?", "Oh my gosh, you still have xxx amount of weeks to go? You'll be HUGE!", etc...

Don't take it to heart, you're obviously doing a great job baking your bub and to be honest, big bellies are really over-rated . I'm much smaller this time around and I'm loving it because I know how awkward it is to be bigger

Ah... mothers in law, gotta love em. I was having trouble sleeping at night because my heart was racing, my man must have said something to her, coz she got me on the phone and demanded I go to the doctor immediately to have my problem checked out. What problem I asked? Your heart problem she says! I don't have a heart problem I tell her, it's quite common for your resting heart rate to go up due to the increase in blood flow in your body, it's normal! She says well she's never heard of it, and she's had 2 children so I must have a heart problem..... Lots of fun! And I'm only in the early days yet!

yeah it's rude, but as everyone else has said, it's kind of par for the course when you're PG....
My MIL has annoyed me this time with her constant comments "are you sure it's not twins?"...yeah I'm big but I was with all the others too, in fact this time I think I'm a bit smaller...I just keep telling her she has forgotten what I look like when I'm PG. If it was twins I wouldn't be able to walk by now

My Mum was at a wedding when she was quite pg with me.

She said something about how in 6 weeks she would have her hands full - they asked why and she said "when the baby comes". At that point surely even the most stupid person would stop and think but no - this one went straight on with "oh, I suppose it isn't too late to back out - I hear so many horror stroies about adoption"

So, clearly, she didn't even appear to be pregnant

Katie - don't worry about it hun. You sound like you are doing great, bubs is happy - and in a few weeks time your belly will be plenty big enough, and you will probably have people commenting on how huge you are!

It's called nod and smile....you just need to perfect the nod and smile!

It doesn't matter what size you are, people will find something to comment on. In one day I had people telling me how small I was and other people saying I looked like I was about to burst. I can't be both now can I???

then again, a lady at my mums work said her daughter found out at 39 weeks she was having twins, she only had the once scan and it was hiding all along!

I was so glad to read this post because i completely relate to it!

I've just reached 27 weeks and have been convinced i must be having a really tiny baby because everyone i see (including complete strangers where i work) tells me how small i am for this far along! I mentioned this to my midwife at my appointment last week and her response was "tell them all to bugger off"! lol I could have hugged her. My belly is measuring the right size and she said that it is just that i am tall (5'7) and of an average build (62kg before pregnancy), and being my first the skin and muscles are much firmer.

She also said that if you line up a whole lot of pregnant women, you could never pick how far along they are. There will be some that she sees that are really big and when she goes to feel the belly it is all just excess weight.

So hopefully you can now be like me- relieved and celebrating the fact that we are lucky enough to be 'all baby' and not carrying excess weight that we will have to lose later.

    Hey ladies,

Thanks for all the positive comments! have only just managed to get back online as we are madly renovating the house b4 bubby arrives - Anyways i had an appointment with my OB on monday, and she assured me that everything was perfectly fine, and i too am just all baby! have low to medium levels of amniotic (sp?) fluid which is fine and cause i'm tall and have a reasonably good pelvis my little angel is just tucked in nice and cosy! Also i've only put on about 4kgs so far which i'm happy about cause i know in the next few weeks its just gonna get bigger!

Also seems that since i posted this thread, now all of a sudden i'm bigger than i was a week ago?! go figure!
