Unhappy So sick I can't eat... and it's getting worse

I need some advice from those of you that have suffered from really bad MS.
I'm on week 7 and my morning sickness has just gotten really really bad. I had it from even before I missed my period, but until now I was able to keep it down by eating light meals regularly, eating bland things, having ginger tea etc... But the last three days it's just been getting worse and worse and worse. Now I can't eat practically anything at all. Even the thought of eating makes me sick. I've been having bread with nothing on it (tried evrything but it just makes me sick) plain pasta with a bit of olive oil (I grew up in italy and that's what you have there when you're sick) but just such small quantities that it's not enough. I'm hungry but I just can't eat anything and I'm feeling really weak, obviously. I need to be feeding my baby (and myself!) but I don't know what to do.
I don't even understand how am I supposed to go on with normal life, just taking a few steps makes me sick, and this is continuous, it doesn't even come and go, it's all night and all day!! Please help if you have any ideas!!!

There are a couple of previous threads about this
Might want to go to the doc to get the prescription for the drugs to help you with the vomiting - I can only suggest dry crackers and a cup of tea to get your blood sugar levels up in the morning before hopping out of bed. Apparently that helps. And dry crackers - preferably salty ones. I think I put all this in another thread

Good luck. It won't last forever. Chin up!!!

Hey Darl, Sorry to hear you are so ill, I totally feel your pain. In my first few weeks I was so ill I lost 2 kilos every fortnight for about 3 months, it wasn't pleasent. I then continued on to have morning sickness till almost 6 1/2 months. I had to permanently have a vomit bag in my handbag cause I just didnt know what smell would set me off. My only advice would be to see your doctor and get a prescription for Maxalon, it worked well for me when i found out that i could actually take it during pregnancy. The other alternative that the midwifes suggest was ginger apparently it works really well for MS. Good luck and I really hope yours doesnt last much longer, it's very hard to be excited about being pregnant when you spend your days with your head down the toilet bowl

I agree, dry crackers before you get out of bed. You can also try ginger biscuits again befor you get out of bed. If this does not help then you should go see a doctor who can give you drugs to help. Don't worry too much about not feeding your baby, this will not happen. Your body can go without food for quite a few days without it being a problem.

I found that sea sickness bands helped me, didn't make it go away but made it not so bad.

HI, I can so sympathise! I am going thru the same thing at the moment.
I was very bad last week, had to have 2 days off work and basically sat in bed with a bucket, not nice.
I found these blackmores morning sickness tablets which contain vit b6 and ginger, I have found these extremely helpful, as this will be my second day (if I make it!!) without gagging. but, the only downfall I have found with these is that you need to eat first otherwise they just come straight back up! and they taste foul!!
bundaberg ginger beer was good, but I threw it up a bit too often and I cant even look at it now, watermelon is good too, I also stocked up on icypoles and find these really good.
I am now having just a low level constant queasy feeling, occasionally getting worse but then I know I need to eat, AGAIN!
I hope you feel better soon, I know how much it sucks.

Oh hun i really sympathise, i suffered constant vomitting until 12 weeks. One thing helped me immensely: about 4 almonds (plain not salted) every hour or so. I would even eat these through the night as i would wake up to vomit. I bought the organic ones.

The other thing depending on if you can stomach it, real fruit juice icey poles to keep your fluids up.

Stay strong and know that it does pass!

Had this with both pregnancies... Maxalon took the edge off, but not really. Found I could eat cheese twisties of all things, and sometimes orange jelly. Water with a lemon squeezed in was ok, but not any other fluids. Frosty fruits sometimes worked too.

Accupuncture worked for 48 hours at a time, so I would have a treatment if I was going out somewhere so I could at least enjoy myself for one day. It gets too expensive to have it too often though.

Just look forward to 2nd trimester as it usually goes away then. Monie went at 12 weeks 1st preg and at 14 weeks this time. It's not fun, but don't worry about harming your baby, it will take what it needs from your reserves.

Dry sao's. Seriously. Plain dry sao's are the only reason I am alive right now (LOL!). And sipping water. Just a mouthful every 10 minutes or so. I struggled with plain water, so have cordial. I found munching on dry sao's and sipping ice cold water with cordial was my lifesaver, it really helped me. Lemonade was good for me as I had such a hard time burping without vomiting, and lemonade helped me being up gas without running for the toilet.

Taking my vitamins (at night before bed was best for me) really helped too. I know, just the thought of trying to swallow one of them is gag inducing, but they helped. I took them at night, it helped a lot, I think because my body absorbed it at night maybe so I wasn't waking up empty IYKWIM. You'll know the best time to take them. Take one in the morning and one at night if that helps...?

Ginger didn't really work for me (mainly because I hate ginger so the thought of eating it was enough to get me gagging).

I actually found peppermint tea worked quiet well too, and even just smelling some peppermint oil (dab some on neck and wrists... might be able to put it in an oil burner but I'm not sure on that) helped to cut the nausea down enough for me to eat something.

Don't be afraid of eating unhealthy if thats what you want... for the first few weeks I really wanted unhealthy foodss, but I tried to cram in healthy food, only to bring it back up again. Just eat what you feel like, and don't try to eat something because you should.

I also had to put an alarm on at night (frustrating for Shel, but essential for about a week or two) to wake me up every 2 hours to have something to eat. I just ate some Sao's when the alarm went off. If I didn't do that I would be soooooo sick in the morning. AND drink water at night too.... I still wake up sick now if I haven't had a glass of water during the night. Yeah I have to pee more, but I don't feel sick so i'm ok with frequent trips to the toilet to pee (rather than spew :ms.

Definately visit your doctor every few days. I know that seems excessive, but if you aren't eating much or drinking much water, dehydration is a serious concern and its essential that you are treated for that ASAP if it happens. Your dr can also give you a prescription for Maxalon if you think you'll be able to keep it down long enough for it to work. Also, if it gets so extreme that you can't eat anything for two days or more, take a trip to the ER. I know it isn't fun, but they can help, give you some IV fluids so you aren't dehydrated and so bub is getting nutrients, and can sometimes gie you an injection of an antinausea drug (injection is yucky but good because you can't throw it back up).

ALSO the most important thing to remember when you have MS.... the baby will take what it needs from you, and leave you with the rest. Don't worry that you aren't feeding your baby... you're feeling so sick because the little one in there is taking everything from you and leaving you with nothing.

:hugs: I know how you feel, but it does get better. During the first three-four months I wondered why anyone would ever have more than one baby, why would you put yourself through that again, and I swore I'd never go through this again, but it does get better :hugs:

    Hello,
I've had bad ms with both pregs and I have found that a piece of chocolate (or more) in the morning really helps if I don't have a piece I am bed ridden all day. Can't explain how it works but I swear by it i'm almost 19 weeks and would still be throwing up if I hadn't of found this little trick. I hope you find something that works for you :hugs:

OMG! Ginger biscuits! That's pure brilliance. I've been eating crackers and taking ginger tabs, but never put 2 and 2 together. I love ginger snaps! Ooooh and gingerbread men too.....

    Thanks

Tish - you may already be doing this but take a pregnancy multi vitamin as well, like Elevit or the Blackmores one. At least that way if you can't eat (i lived on salt and vinegar chips for months), your bubs will be getting something from the vitamin.

Thanks em I am on elevit (sometimes I think this makes the MS even worse!). I am hopeful the MS will go soon - it hasn't been too bad, but it's weird to not want to eat. Eating was like a hobby before LOL. Anyway, any excuse for ginger snaps in the morning!!

    Cheers,

MANNA I posted a similar thread to yours in the Pregnancy in the First Trimester section. That's where you'll find the few other posts about this too.

I also had terrible MS from 5.5 wks & still have it now. I went through about 1.5 weeks where it was bearable but it's now back to being really awful. It's so hard to see the road at the end of the tunnell & nothing really does help. I found that things helped only for a very very short period. Maxalon will help stop the vomitting, but as someone else mentioned here it doesn't stop the nausea, it just takes the edge off it. I have now found that the more I eat, the more I can eat. I was finding it hard to eat anything, but that passed. The thought of having food still haunts me but once I actually start eating it's ok. It did take me a few weeks to get to this point though.

Check out the other threads, try all the things people say, & hope you get some relief for at least a short period of time. It's so awful, but unfortunately there's not alot you can do about it.
