Will anyone be getting this?
I asked my Ob about it the other day and he said that it's not a live vaccine so giving it to pregnant ladies is fine. I'm just wary of vaccinations when pregnant, live or not.
What does everyone else think?
Thanks

That confuses me too. I have read elsewhere that it is NOT ok to give during preg, now all of a sudden it is.
It also hasn't been tested very well and imho rushed though...
Exactly my thinking.
The thing is, the next strain of swine flu is going to be much worse. I am really torn about what to do. Getting a bad flu when pregnant is not good.
Ugh.
I'm considering getting it... I was quite worried last time it hit.
CDC To Urge Swine Flu Vaccine For Pregnant Women : NPR
Just googled it and found this link. It's American but interesting.
Arrrgggghhh, still not sure though!

This Swine Flu vaccine is like the normal flu vaccine - getting this vax will not stop you getting hte next strain of swine flu.
Just like this years flu vaccine will not stop you getting next years' strain either....
Personally I would not get any vaccine whilst pregnant, live or not.
Limeslice, totally agree. Just found another article that says they don't have enough evidence to show whether or not it will cause deformities in unborn babies.
I think that I've just decided not to!
Definitely a no here.
The new swine flu vaccine contains thimerosal as a preservative, which is 50% mercury by weight. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal, and for this reason we are advised not to consume tuna and other types of fish whilst pregnant as the mercury content can harm the developing baby. Sure, it may be a small amount of mercury, but in my opinion there is no safe level of mercury - this substance simply should not enter the human blood stream at all.
Because of the controversy surrounding thimerosal's link to autism, it has been taken out of many childhood vaccines, so I cannot understand why on earth they would be using it as a preservative in this new vaccine and recommending it to pregnant women when the risks of mercury intake have been so well documented. The substance offers no benefit to the human body whatsoever, and is used primarily as a preservative to prolong the shelf life of the vaccine and hence prevent loss of profit for pharmaceutical companies.
I am a strong advocate for natural medicine and building the immune system via natural means, so my view is evidently biased against pharamcuetical companies and drugs in general, but it is my honest opinion that profit, rather than health is their main driving force. The vaccine has not been sufficiently tested (and in the trials that were conducted the adverse reactions were significant enough to make the mainstream press) therefore and I am not willing to offer my body or baby up as a guinea pig for this scaremongering experiment which is set to line the pockets of a few already very rich people.
But hey - each to their own......
Hear hear!!! I am also very suspicious when 'experts' can apparently tell us exactly when a virus will hit. Sounds more like their profit forecasts have told them when it should hit.
From what I gather not many people have actually been tested to see if they actually have swine flu. Alot of people I know of have been told they have it purely from the symptoms, which are often exactly the same as normal flu (which yearly kills more people than swine flu has) It seems it is often diagnosis from assumption which is mightily profitable to the company that designed the swine flu vaccine as we can never be sure how many people actually are getting swine flu and not just seasonal flu. With no clear knowledge of the actual spread of swine flu you have the perfect environment for mass fear and panic and then tons of lovely money being made!!! I would love to know how many dodgy handshakes brought about this very profitable deal for the pharmaceutical companies.
I'm usually fairly cynical... but I had my H1N1 vaccination this morning. I feel that I made an educated choice. Though I agree, each to their own... if somebody feels intuitively bad about being vaccinated themselves then they should go with that. Personally I had a very persistent little voice in my head saying "get it!"... so I did. I have a chronic illness (Graves) and 2 kids in school which makes me a higher risk than the average person. With regard to the heavy metal mercury in the preservative: doesn't worry me but I'm not pregnant. Seeing the bigger picture the average person will absorb MUCH more heavy metal by driving their car in heavy traffic every day than via this vaccination. Do pregnant women stop driving in heavy traffic because of the unknown risks? Not usually. That is an incredibly toxic activity that most women choose to ignore... interesting. The number of pregnant women happy to drink Coke also astounds me. Are there conclusive tests as to what THAT does to your unborn baby?
I'm not trying to convince every pregnant women to have the H1N1 vaccinationJust appealing for a bit of perspective. At the end of the day everyone is responsible for their own health and that of their child... and this does ultimately mean that everyone has to weigh the odds for themselves... keeping in mind the bigger picture.
Hi girls - I got the vaccine at the end of last week - on my doctors recommendation - I have rheumatoid arthiritis so apparently my immune system is a bit weaker than the usual person - only side effect I seem to have gotten was a slight sore throat but that has now gone. Am feeling movement still down there so I assume everything seems OK, but each to their own.
I just came on here to specifically ask about this!
I don't want to get it done at all - generally speaking I am pro-vaccination. But I don't believe in flu shots. Especially whilst pregnant. I even delayed DS's varicella vax until after my first trimester of pregnancy with DD, and I have had chicken pox, just to be safer.
DH is pushing me hard to get H1N1 vax, every time the ad comes on TV he says "see, you're in the higher risk category." I have fobbed him off by saying I'll get it done after the first trimester but I'll just keep my head down and hope he forgets about it.
Doesn't help that I made him get a whooping cough booster a few months ago along with me...it is mixed with tetanus and he stepped on a rusty nail the other week so he was very grateful he didn't have to go haring off to the GP for a tetanus booster. But I wasn't pregnant then!
Like Bathsheba says...I am trusting my gut on this one, and the gut says no.
Hi Ladies,
First time user here so not really sure how the ropes work, but thought I'd share my story. I was just over 6 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At two doctors strong recommendations I got the swine flu shot. After 4 days of getting it done my baby stopped developing. I had to have a D&C. My instincts were screaming at me not to get the shot but I decided to trust the doctors. I wish I had turned to these forums before I made that decision. It's a hard lesson to learn. To all, please reconsider getting the shot.

The miscarriage story isn't unheard of too.
Shocking H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Miscarriage Stories From Pregnant Women
From another thread I posted:
Its an absolute Farce. The UK is trying to fob off 1 billion pounds worth of the stuff, as is France who have 79 million vaccines in stock that they are trying to get rid of as are other countries. Some are calling it the biggest scams this century and its being investigated by peak bodies...
Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly to Investigate WHO and “Pandemic” Scandal
There is so much info on this that it's not funny. Over 1 million doses were recalled a couple of weeks ago also, and there is the huge story about vitamin D being more effective than the swine flu vaccine.... I wouldn't do it, its not properly tested, its a scam and it's a money making joke. The motion was introduced by Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, former SPD Member of the German Bundestag and now chairman of the Health Committee of PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe). Wodarg is a medical doctor and epidemiologist, a specialist in lung disease and environmental medicine, who considers the current “pandemic” Swine Flu campaign of the WHO to be “one of the greatest medicine scandals of the Century.

Hi duffwoman,
Good luck with your decision
I've come to the conclusion that if I get the jab it will be in March sometime. Maybe there will be a revised vacc to treat the new strain? I've been meaning to look in to that....
Personally I'm over the whole conspiracy theory view of the swine flu and vacc. Maybe I'm too trusting, but I just can't see how the Government would take the risk of okaying a vacc for pregnant women and children if it weren't safe.
Thats what they are all doing with Gardasil! Money makes the world go around.

I think flu vaccines are always made using the last strain to have gone around, as they can't make a vaccine for a flu strain that hasn't been infectious here yet? I think it's because the flu mutates so quickly. I'm pretty sure the same thing goes for the swine flu vaccine, whatever shot you're getting will be based on the last strain to have been here.
Anyone, feel free to correct me if you know otherwise!
