There is a man at SIL school that is very strange.. I have met him ONCE.
He has 2 children, and when they were born he brought their placentas to the school, steamed them, and ate them infront of the students to demonstrate that they were nutritious. (grose)
This teacher asks sil yesturday if he could have my placenta to use for 'science'
uhhh... dh's reponse was very normal as you could imagine a few nasty words about the teacher about how sick he is.
We dont know if he was planning to eat it, or disect it.. but yuck.
We are now thinking of getting it detroyed asap incase he goes into the medical waste bin and eats it.
Yuk!! If a family decides to do something with the placenta it's one thing but for a stranger to want it.... I dunno if you should complain to the school???
Very very weird and quite unnerving. I would absolutely be following this up with his superiors. It is quite frankly, not normal and if he was planning to eat it then it is verging on dare I use the word but cannibalism......
I agree that it is nutritious. But wrong to ask a stranger. I wouldn't eat it myself but i know its a great source of iron, especially if you've had a PPH. We plan to bury ours under a tree.
Thanks girls, I didnt think it was quite right. And I heard back from sil today saying she felt very awkward being forced to ask us. I may have to have a talk to the school, may be a good idea, who knows how many pregnant women he has tried to eat a part of..
OMG!!! So wrong... you can't ask a woman for her placenta???
Ok, I know it's nutritious... but so are a lot of things I would never consider eating! I would complain to the school that this man had requested your placenta. If I were a parent at this school I would also have complained that he steamed and ate his own children's placenta at school! I'm pretty sure 'Nutritional Content of the Human Placenta' is not part of our current Australian curriculum and I really don't think it's appropriate for this man to physically demonstrate to children that the placenta can be eaten. Personally, I find it all a little disturbing...
ETA Aussienic I was typing when you posted... I completely agree.
