Hi! I am 38 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. DD1 was born at 40 +5 days. Heaps of people keep telling me that this baby will most likely come earlier than what DD did and I was just wanting to know what your experiences are with this. Did your second birth occur earlier than your first? How similar was it to your first labour? Thanks for sharing.
Well i have had 5 babies and all 5 have come on different times to when they were due, but the one thing for me that was common was that my labours got easier, i think because i knew what to expect and knew how to deal with my body, all my labours became shorter as well.
My first baby was over due by 2 days, my second over due by 9 days, (may have been even longer but i was induced), my third was overdue by 5 days, my 4th was born the day before her due date and my 5th was 2 weeks early.
My first labour was 10 hours, second was 5, third was 1 hour 45min, 4th was 2 hours 10min and she was born in the caul (sac) and 5th 2 hours 5min.
from what i have learnt babies come when they are ready
I have had 2 babies but my second was induced due to gestational diabetes. I am not GD this time and baby is measuring pretty much to dates so I just want to subscribe to this thread because I have wondered this same thing myself about subsequent babies arrival in relation to their due dates.
ok DD was induced 3 weeks early labour was 4 hrs
DS1 was 10 days over and induced again 45 minute labour
DS2 was 10 days late not induced and a 55 minute labour.
Babies come when they are ready, best of luck. I must say my second and third labours were easier as i knew what to expect and was actually more prepared
My first DD arrived 3.5 weeks early. Labour was 8.5 hours and she was posterior. This time around, second DD arrived 10 days early and labour was 1hr 45min. Second labour was soooooo much easier. Four pushes instead of four hours of pushing! Lovely water birth. There definitely seems to be a trend of subsequent labours being shorter. Good luck with everything!!
Rachel I'm in exactly the same boat. I'm 38 weeks pg with #2 and have been wondering about my second labour. Tan32 you have scared the crap out of me. My first was 3 1/2 hours and I am worried my second is going to be a rocket. I matched my mum's first labour to the minute (even the same length stages) and her second labour was natural and 1 1/2 hrs. I'm really thankful I live really close to the hospital. I'm thinking I might be a bit quick this time but Tan32 you don't mess around, LOL!! Rachel as a rule of thumb (never forget there are exceptions to every rule) that the second is quicker and easier because your body knows what it is doing this time and dilates and effaces at the same time and 2nd stage is quicker as the path is paved so to speak. Fingers crossed your have an amazing birth.
Going to keep a close eye on this thread.
DD was born 2 days after her EDD... but was sooo overdue her dates were very wrong .....12.5 hr labour.
DS1 was 14 days late, 3.5 hr labour.
DS2 was induced 10 days late.
One thing with mine though - I suspect my dates may have been off a bit - and as for DD her dates were set by USS & were clearly very wrong. She looked well over 42+ when she was born.
I think babies come when they are ready, whether number 2, 3 or 10... but one thing you can take is that you will quite possibly have a much better labour this time
Oskar was 4 days over and Elijah 3 under. I won't compare to Joshua as he was c/s no labour.
Oskar's birth was faster but a lot to do with him being distressed and a lot of meconium in my waters, so he was vacuum assisted. He was 3 1/2 hours - I didn't get any prelabour or notice anything before active labour. Elijah was all on his own, waters broke spontaneously all clear and he took his time getting through under pubic bone though. I'd say Elijah's birth was better in a lot of ways just longer. He was 12 hours from when I woke at 9 mins apart but active labour probably about 4 hours so very similar to Oskar there. Hope that makes sense... you'll be ok Rachel and it's normal to feel some anxious feelings and have questions as the birth gets closer.
#1 was induced at 36wks for pre-eclampsia 5 hr labour but was already 4cm before they started the induction.
#2 was expected to be early around 32-34wks but we ended up going 4 days overdue before they took pity on me and did an ARM - again already 3cm dilated - 3 hour labour
Well my first 2 are very special I think they are connected in some other way.
Ethan: 37wks 4 days, 6pds 110z, born sunday @ 11.19am - 7/11/2004
Lilli: 37wks 4days, 6pds 110z, born sunday @ 11. 29am - 15/6/2008
We are going for a trifector for this bubs,
Ethan's labour was quick, 6hrs in total
Lilli, well she was a bugger. I dilated over several wks to 3cm, then took 2 days of pre-labour to get to 4cm. However when i got to 4cm (which was 7.30am), it was 4 hrs from there, which included 20mins of pushing.
