I went to City Imaging in Victoria St, opposite St.Vincents Hospital and they were great. You need a referral from your GP/OB. I think I booked mine in around 4 weeks prior and had no problems getting in.
I went there too, awsome. Highly recommended. I think the full name is City imaging ultrasound for women. They do 3d and 4d there.
If you want to have the NT screening, then once you have a referal, you just phone and tell them you need a 12 week u/s. They specialise in obstetrics so they will know what to book.
Your GP will give you a referral. The 12 week scan is to measure the nuchal fold. You also have a blood test a few days before. You don't have to have the test done but it's recommended for women over 35 who have a higher risk of DS or other trisomies. You get given a risk factor say 1/10,000 or 1/200 etc and will be told if it is recommended that you have further invasive testing.
If you don't want to have this test then you wait for the scan at around 20 weeks. This is the one where you get all the measurements done.
I can't help with where to go as I'm on the other side of town. Some places will do 3D/4D, some don't. Your doctor will probably give you a referral for a certain place anyway.
I'm going to Melbourne Ultrasound for Women on Hampton St in Hampton. They also have a clinic on Lygon St in Carlton. They do 3D and 4D ultrasounds also but I would request it first if that's what you are wanting because I think they only do it on request Also ask if you need to bring your own USB or blank disc or whatever for recording keepsakes. I'm having my scan next week so I will be calling beforehand as well. As the others said, you will need a referral from your gp or ob and when you book in just say you have a referral for a 12 week scan and then they'll ask you some questions and details. I would book in ASAP just in case!
HTH!
