I had a glass of Moet on my 30th when I was pregnant with DD. I was more than comfortable with my choice to do so (as was DH) and that's what's important if you choose to have a drink - that you are OK with your decision

I didn't like the smell or taste of wine while PG with DD (champers being the exception) which was so strange for a girl who loves her wine! Red wine smelt and tasted like paint stripper White wasn't much better so it was easy for me to avoid them.

This pregnancy is different though. White wine smells appealing and I've had a couple of tiny sips of red and it tastes normal I'll continue to avoid it though as I'm surprised at how easily I can avoid it (keeping in mind I love my wine normally!) but I'll allow myself to have a small glass at special occasions, like my friend's wedding in September.

Some of my friends current OBs are saying a couple of wines a week is fine, some are saying no alcohol at all. Like a PP said, the lack of knowledge on how much (or how little) alcohol is 'too' much is why the 'rule' tends to be 'no alcohol at all'. But as long as you're comfortable BAL then really that is all that matters.

The only alcohol I had with DS1 was a sip or 2 of DH's beer occassionally - cause i really, really wanted beer - but was just so scared of it doing any damage so didn't do anymore then that.

But with DS2 I was alot more relaxed. I had a few glasses of champagne at different special occassions throughout my pregnancy and the occassional west coast cooler when i wanted it (they are usually my summer refreshing drink anyway). I have no problem with it and I think my boys have turned out ok.

I say do what makes you comfortable - there will be no judgement from me on the night.

I had the occasional glass with both my pgs. With DS I didn't know I was pg until 7 weeks & had a couple big sessions. I also had my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic. He seems fine.

I think most people are aware of the dangers and risks, and like with everything only you can make the decision YOU feel comfortable with. For some people that is a few beers over summer in later pregnancy, for others it might be a half glass of wine with a meal all the way through and for some it is abstinence the whole pregnancy. I know the risks have been looked at more closely in recent years but I know in some cultures it is almost recommended to have a wee glass of wine throughout! Only you can decide what you feel comfortable with. FWIW I had the occasional half glass of red in the third trimester but didn't really feel like drinking and was absolutely hammered at my DH's 30th and had no idea I was pg with Izzy!! Hope you have a wonderful time!

if your comfertable then do it.

I had a half bubbly half OJ at breaky on christams day with my parents then a glass of red at lunch when i was pregnant. Mind you. DH's father refused to allow his daughter (DH's sister) to have any alcohol when she was pregenat both times however he was the one encouraging me to have a glass at christmas and continued topping it up - so I really had to watch what I was drinking.

I had the occasional glass of wine or champers after my first trimester with both my boys. I actually asked my Ob when pg with DS1 what she thought and her words were "there's no evidence to suggest an occassional glass causes any harm to the baby, but no evidence to suggest it doesn't either. I think a glass every now and then is ok - just use your commonsense". Her words exactly.

I think be guided by how YOU feel about it. If you're going to enjoy your glass for your birthday guilt-free, then do it. But if you'll beat yourself up then there's no point.
If it were me, I'd have a glass to celebrate my birthday ... but that's me

I'm not a big drinker anyway, but I didn't have any alcohol during the two pg. I'm just too paranoid, if anything went wrong I'd be beating myself up about it. I've heard however that the reason why there isn't any damage done very early on is that the alcohol cannot get to the baby until the placenta is well formed???? So if you've been drinking like a fish and you've just found out you're pg, it's ok. Don't know how true it is though

my doc said if you were a drinker before hand, its probably not best to give it up all together, one or two a week..

i was absolutly smashed on boxing day last year then i found out a few days later i was pregnant! i had a couple of beers in the first trimester, i havent really had a beer since, mainly cuz i dont feel like it.. just a sip of dh's here and there.. i could really go a nice little baileys though

during the first trimester I avoided it. From 25 weeks on I had three half glasses of white wine all up. could only manage quarter to half a glass. I enjoyed it and felt okay doing it.

I drank the odd glass of wine throughout both pregnancies.
I also smoked through half of DD1's (and funnily enough she was a whole pound heavier than DD2 lol)

Anyway, I wouldn't deny myself the odd drink, and I would certainly have one on my 30th birthday - pick something really exxy at the restaurant and enjoy it!

I love a good red, but have never had more than a sip when pregnant because I was always worried about something happening, which really is silly because nothing is going to happen over 1 measly glass of wine.

Its your 30th and I say IF your comfortable with having a glass then do it, you do it as an educated woman making an educated decision.

I haven't read all the responses, but for me it just wasn't worth the risk.
If something had gone wrong and I'd done something I wasn't sure of, I never would have forgiven myself.
No judgement, but that's what I did

I think I had about 1 glass a month with Liebs. Months 1 and 2 I didn't realise I was pg so maybe a bit more. Then there was the glass when I visited my Austrian friend (3m), my cousin's wedding (5m), Grandma's 80th (6m), Christmas (8m)... a small glass of wine with food and a healthy diet is unlikely to cause many problems. There's still a chance, but it's about managing risk.

With both girls i would have 1 glass of wine at special occasions, never anymore than that and very rarely was it actually a FULL glass.
I think it's a personal choice hun, there is nothing wrong with either of my girls but i understand people not wanting to risk it.

i had a few half glasses here and there, if i needed it and didnt feel guilty.

while i was in russia years ago i saw a few children who had clearly been born with issues due to alcohol. but they were probably born to parents who drank a bottle of $2 vodka a day.
