I'm 13 and a half weeks pregnant, and since I fell pregnant I have lost 7kg, and I most certainly have not been trying to! Admittedly, I did have a bit of trouble finding things I wanted to eat for most of my first trimester, but I think I was still eating enough. I haven't been exercising either. I thought that maybe when my appetite came back and I was eating a bit more, which I have been for the past few weeks , that I'd start keeping the same weight or start slowly putting weight on, but that hasn't happened - I'm still losing weight. I mentioned this to my doctor, and she thought maybe I had a problem with my thyroid and she sent me for a blood test. But I've since looked up overactive thyroid and I don't think that could be it, cause the only symptom I have is the weight loss.
Has anyone else had this problem? Everything was fine with bubs when I went for my 12 week scan, but I'm still worried that something is wrong.
you should talk with your doctor for advise specific to you.
generally speaking however it really depends on how much you weighed before you fell pregnant in the first place.
My first pregnancy I lost 5kg in my first trimester (because of healthy eating) and my doctor was please suggesting that I shouldn't aim to loose any more but should certainly aim to main tain my weight during pregnancy (giving me overall weightloss). I was thirty kg overweight to begin with. My second pregnancy I started within my healthy weight range and was told to aim to gain no more then 15kg.
My SIL was encouraged the whole way through her last pregnancy to loose weight (she lost about 20kg while pregnant), but she was about 50kg overweight prior to falling pregnant.
I also lost weight when pregnant with my dd 11kg and this time with ds i was the same weight as before i was pregnant. I had severe morning sickness with both and really not much of an appetite until now i cant stop eating.
Well, I was about 25kg overweight when I fell pregnant, so I'm certainly not underweight now. It's just so strange to be losing weight when I've been expecting to start gaining weight. I'll talk to my doctor next time I'm in, and maybe make a bit more of a fuss about it so I can get some decent answers.
I lost weight in the first tri with all of mine.
I don't think you need to be concerned unless you keep losing it. As long as you are eating well & healthy you should be fine.
I agree as long as you are eating healthily don't stress about it too much, as long as you and bubs are getting the nutrition you need its not a big deal.
I lost about 17 kilos with DD, she was healthy the whole pregnancy so my Dr wasn't worried.

I wouldn't worry so much about it. I weighed 1kg less at 21 weeks than what I did before I fell pg. Neither my doc or the midwife were at all concerned cause bubs was still growing well and I was well. If you are really worried you can speak to a dietician.
I wouldnt worry about it either - if there was a problem with it your dr would be on to it.
i am currently 32 weeks preg and am still losing weight - have lost 16kg's so far, and look like loosing more through constant morning sickness, reflux etc.
My dr is not worried and neither am I - bubs is doing extremely well and I am feeling fantastic.
So... dont worry, sit back and enjoy the wonderful experience you are going through.
This is a great thread! Not that I'm going to try and lose weight but I am going to try and eat really really healthily. I'm about 25kg overweight and so I think it would be good to not gain weight and it would be nice to be a little more healthy. Of course I was meant to have lost all this weight prior to TTC but that just didn't happen (shame on me!).
Ruth08, I am about 30kg overweight and I am 5 weeks pregnant, due April 21st 2009
I have cut out all junk and caffeine (oh god my beloved coke zero) and in 5 days I have lost 3kg. I'd like to lose another 15kg over the pregnancy just by eating healthy and walking daily. It has been tough eating healthy and I have bad headaches from the withdrawals but there is no way I am feeing my baby KFC, potato chips and all the chemicals in Coca Cola.
My Dr said it's fine to lose weight if you are already overweight, as long as you eat healthy and enough of it.
Hi Sterla
i'm in the same boat - I'm 15 weeks and I've lost 8 kilos since i fell pregnant, mainly because I had really bad m/s and for some reason I really don't have much of an appetite - although I'm trying really hard to eat enough healthy food
my midwife said that as long as I am taking my elevit the baby is getting all the nutrients it needs from me - we're the ones who miss out.
