Because you are in QLD, is probably isn't that cold up there at that time of year, but I'm guessing the nights could still be cool? I had an October baby and it was just a bad year that it got hot by the middle of September and she hardly wore any long suits - maybe for the first 2-3 weeks at night only. If you intend on using a sleeping bag at night or wrapping baby for sleep, you wont need to use much underneath - a light jumpsuit should be fine. You can never have too many singlets though - you'd be surprised at how often they can get a little wet at the middle if the nappy leaks a bit.
I usually always work on having 3 'good' outfits for wearing out and just jumpsuits the rest of the time at home. Socks are a must too cause sometimes their little feet can feel so cold. It's a real funny time of the year cause you don't know if winter is going to drag on or if it will be an early summer kwim? My bub is due in September and I haven't brought a lot cause I just can't predict what the weather is going to be like here this year.
