    Plug question *TMI*

Did anyone out there lose some of their plug in early pregnancy? Well the earlier half anyway?
Over the last probably 36 hours I've been to the loo 3 times & seen what looks a little bit like it could be a tiny bit of my plug. I'm not sure if I should worry or if I'm being paranoid.
I only really saw similar just before DD1's labour, but there was alot more & that was more a grey colour. What I have is white, & not much, but kinda thick & quite stringy iykwim? Not like normal cm.
I also had bad back pain the night I first saw it, but thats it. Nothing else to make me think anything is wrong.
I don't really know what to think. Because its only been once a day I've seen it also makes me think its not just normal cm.
Any ideas on what it could be, or reassurance that I'm right & that its nothing to worry about?
    TIA

I had exactly what you described from around 16 weeks with Tristan, around 18ish weeks I started losing my plug. The OB was not concerned at all as the mucous plug itself can re-generate.

The back pain worries me a bit, but if it was a once off then I probably wouldn't worry. If it does continue be sure to get checked out. Better to lose a few hours and know everything is ok than sit worrying.

    Hi Clover
I need to ask a few Q’s before I can answer.
Does this loss happen when you first get out of bed?
    Is it smelly?
Is it frothy? Even a little
How long did your back pain last?
    Are you itchy?
Is the loss thick like when you blow your nose or it more like a runny nose?
If you are a little embarrassed to answer here you can PM me

    No, thats ok.
Not smelly, frothy or itchy at all. The first time I noticed it was Sunday night, about the size of a 20c piece, then yesterday morning, about the size of a 5c piece & tonight. The amount was probably between the other 2.
Its hard to describe what it was like. It wasn't runny. It was kinda thick & stringy, but not gluggy like glue, lol. I hope that made sense?
Oh, & the back pain lasted for about an hour. Just a constant ache.

Is it stringy like CM can be?

No, well I've only seen it once after getting out of bed. Yesterday morning. The other 2 times were more after cooking dinner.
I think its more stringy. I don't know. I've never had cm like it before, so can't be sure.
To me it was more like stringy cheese. Thats a better description I think.

Ok I don't really think that it is your plug however without being able to see it I can't be sure. My first thought is that it could be thrush starting to take hold. You can go to the chemist and get your prefered thrush treatment. They are all safe to use during pregnancy. If the loss increases it would be worth getting things checked out. Also I would mention it at your next antenatal visit.

Ok thanks. I've had thrush a few times before. I have none of those symptoms & have never had this type of discharge, so we'll see.
It is slightly similar to the plug when I lost it in my first pregnancy, which is why I thought of it. Except that time there was a heck of alot more & it was grey & blood streaked. I lost it in 2 seperate lots the day before my labour started.
I was pretty sure I was worried about nothing, but its good to know
    Thanks

The colour is the main reason that I don't think that it is your plug.
