her head on your pelvic bone maybe? is she engaged? sounds interesting.....Lol.
I got this feeling towards the end of my last pregnancy too. It feels like my baby is scratching my cervix with her fingernails!! Of course I know that's not it, but does anyone have any idea what it is? It can be very uncomfortable at times, but it's not really bothing me ... just curious.

No, she's not engaged. Just 4/5, whatever that is.
4/5 means engaged, it ranges from 1/5 (just starting to engage down into the pelvis) to 5/5 (fully engaged, head fixed and ready to come out now). Eg, my Little Miss was sitting at 3/5 engaged last friday, and every time she bounces in there her head hits my cervix-area and I get that scratchy feeling, feels like she's trying to calw her way out. I've also been at least 1-2cm dilated for 1 & 1/2 weeks now as well, and the feeling has been stronger since I started dilating.
Sounds like your body may be getting ready for your Little Miss to arriveAnd good luck with your VBAC too!
Oooh Joey!!!!!!! It's so close now and this one definitely wants to be born down the slippery slide!!!
Good luck mate![]()
Yay!! Thanks guys. I didn't know what 4/5 means, I just saw it in my notes. I didn't think much of it cause I had that written in my notes a couple of months ago, but then it changed back to 'free' and then at the last one it was 4/5 again.
How exciting!!
Bring on the slipperty slide ride!!
The 4/5 means how much of the head is above the brim...so 4/5 is out of the pelvis and 1/5 is in. Free means that bubs head is not in the pelvis at all.
The baby is not engaged until only 2/5 is above the brim.
A lot of babies don't engage until labour starts and some can engage weeks before labor...unfortunately it is all up to bub.
yep sounds like head on pelvic bone then Lol. good luck for the VBAC!! sounds very promising![]()
That's a odd way of explaining it, here in country Victoria it's the other way round, the midwife got excited last friday when Little Miss changed from 2/5 with free movement to 3/5 and fixed and said I wouldn't make it to my appointment at the hospy tomorrow morning lol DS was similar, free and not engaged until 28wks when he suddenly went head down and straight into 3/5 engaged and stayed that way until I was well and truly in labour and then gradually went to 4/5 and 5/5 when I was told to push.
Not odd at all...I have had 7 kids and have only heard it talked about that way.
But different midwives may do it different...but that has always been my experiences.
Thanks for clarifying itGot me a bit confused as I've only ever heard it mentioned and had it explained to me in the oposite way to what you've been told lol you'd think they'd have a standard for australia wide and not have it different in each area and state.
