My OB didn't want me to travel more than an hour away from the hospital after 31 weeks as he had bad experiences with patients going into early labour in other states and having to spend months in hospital away from their home state. In these situations there is nothing the OB can do. So it may be that yours is being conservative due some bade experiences.

I flew with DD at 34 weeks interstate - and then recently at 22 weeks.

At 32-33 you should be fine as long as your preg is progressing normally.

I flew at 34 weeks with DD from London to Perth and had no problems barring a bit of swelling. And flew with DS at 37 weeks from Karratha WA to Perth (a 2 and a bit hour flight), took a medical certificate with me but they didnt even bother asking.

Unless you have complications then 31/32 weeks should be fine.
