I am interested in finding out when to tell your boss that you are pregnant.
Had my first obs appointment this week and everything is going very well. We saw the little heartbeat and everything. SO AWESOME! anyway so let me know when you told your boss. And if you did tell him before 12 weeks was there any issues with this???
legally you dont HAVE to tell your boss till 10 weeks before you are due to go on leave. (which is generally 6 weeks before the baby is due - many companies ask you to leave then for insurance purposes)
I guess it depends on your situation - I told mine the day after I found out because she knew I had been through 2 previous mc's and I needed her to knwo I would be a bit "funny" for a while.... she was very supportive.
Unless you work in an industry where you have to tell them earlier (but you would know this if you are - generally things like police etc where you could be injured, or in labs where you can be exposed to nasties accidentally)
Generally I think people tell after 12 weeks because it is polite to give them as much time as possible to sort out a replacement etc. But depends on what type of job it is and what type or relationship you have/want with your boss.
With my last pregnancy I told my boss the day after my first scare, so at 5+5. This time I haven't said anything yet (I'm 6+2 today). I was thinking of telling him straight away so he was prepared for any anxiety etc, but I'm really enjoying having this one as a secret. Only DH and 1 friend know....and everyone on here
If all goes well I'll probably wait until about a week before my NT scan as I'll probably have to get a couple of hours off work. I've got a scan next Friday but have decided to take the day off as annual leave

: typo
My colleagues/ boss guessed because it was right around christmas and I had to go to like five functions in a row and not drink! So I was sprung at about 8 weeks!
They were great about it though.
I was planning on not telling anyone till the 12 weeks scan was done and revealed all was ok. But by 8 weeks I was sick and struggling to hide it. We told intimate family and friends only at around 7-8 weeks and I told my boss about 9-10 week mark. I was planning on telling him at 12 weeks but a co worker dumped a bag of chemicals in front of me and asked me to organise a courier for it. I panicked and asked what it was and could it make me sick. He said its pretty nasty stuff so of course I flipped out and cornered my boss in the storage room and told him then. Then told him I do not want to handle or even be around any chemicals. So for safety reasons I told them sooner than I would have liked.
But to be honest it worked out best cause he is very flexible with Dr appointments etc. Plus we have already worked out what maternity leave I will take so that is now just another thing I don't have to worry about. Which is nice.
Good luck and you will know when it is the right time.
I started a new job 3 days after I found out I was pregnant with DD. Morning sickness started within a few days of that (mainly because I could smell that gross canteen!)
I told them I was pregnant at about 25 weeks, I stopped work at 37 weeks. They were completely fine with it which was really good.
I told my boss at 9.5 weeks - IO was just too excited to keep it in!
My dad also works for the company - in a different area but he cou;dn't tell anyone until I told my boss - apparently he found that quite hard, so he was glad I "told early"
One of the girls here waited the full 13 weeks and another came out about 6 weeks. The 12 week mark is the safety mark going into trimester 2 and usually after the Downs Syndrome test.
I told the restaurant owner at about 5 weeks, when I found out, and my chef about 3 days later, but that was only because I work in an environment where I need to be on restricted duties, and I need to be able to manipulate my very long work hours for appointments etc....I also wanted them to know so that if I did miscarry then they would know why I needed the time off. I had only been there for a few weeks when I found out, and felt it was important to give them as much time as possible to plan for the future.
DF wasnt happy about me telling them, but it had to be done. We told close friens and family then too. DF didnt want to tell people until we were 12 weeks, but I honestly knew I wouldnt miscarry so couldnt contain myself! lol
I began a new position in the same co. in November 2006, fell pregnant mid november, told the boss when i was 10w pregnant. He guessed when i sat down and told thim that i needed to him something! He was sooooooooo good about it that i felt guilty. I am so lucky to have him as a boss.
I fell pregnant to Zara in May 08 (which i miscarried) and told him the day after i found out and i was probably about 4 weeks pregnant. I felt even more guiltier but he was cool about it and would keep asking me about by belly and how i was feeling.
When i lost Zara, i told him and he was upset but i think he was relieved too.
I told my boss when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I only told her then as I'd not long started working there and wasn't sure how she'd "react"and wanted as much time as possible to find a new job if I needed to iykwim? Anyway my boss was soooooooo excited and told me she was expecting me to tell her I was preg as dh and I had been married for sometime and her and I are same age and she had 3 kids lol. Funny how things work out.
Good luck with your pregnancy and telling your boss.
I really think it depends on the work you do and the relationship you have with your boss.
as already stated, you aren't legally obliged to tell them till late in your preg, but in my case, I slipped up before we even had the blood results back .. I had just been promoted about 2 months before and my staff were acting like a bunch of children (mind you they were all older than me) and I was just so hormonal.. I was just having a whinge and slipped up sobbing 'and I think I pregnant' and carried on..
I told my boss at around 7 weeks as I'd had two episodes of bed rest due to spotting and due to my m/c history the doc took this seriously. I just felt it was best to warn him that I may have to have more time off because of it. As it turns out I didn't have to take anymore time off so I probably didn't need to tell him so early.
Even giving my boss so much notice my replacement only started 2 days before I finished up (as planned) so make sure you give them plenty of time to recruit your replacement.
I plan on telling them at 20 weeks but I work in an unusual office. I have a strong suspection (and my gut is normally right when it comes to the boss) if I said I was pg they wouldn't renew my contract (when isn't discrimination apparently because it's contract work).
I think 20 weeks is good becuase I can link it into "now we have had the scan and everything is normal I wanted to let you know"...
lol i told my bos at 12 weeks with DD as it was a requirement to give 10 weeks notice of maternity leave.
with this pregnancy, as i dont get paid maternity leave and i work weekend so technically dont see my boss, i keep forgetting to notify them of my pregnancy. lol.... yep at 30 weeks. I will have to this weekend type a letter for them with my intention to stop work in 4 weeks lol
Haven't told my boss yet and I'm coming up to 13wks. I've not been sick enough that anyone suspects and I'm thinking about changing positions, so I don't want to do anything until I know for sure I'll be here right up til mat leave.
