Why is it called 'Bare foot and pregnant'...?

Is it because pregnant women simply forget their shoes?

Yesterday i went out to pick up DH from work and we had to go to the bank straight afterwards. Half way there, i realised i had forgotten to put on my shoes.

I was starting to think it was because your feet swell up so much it's hard to get them in shoes!

But, you have a very good point there, too...

Thanks for the giggle this morning!

I've done that many a time! And not always when I was PG! Haha.

but I too thought it had to do with swelling of the feet... or not being able to afford new shoes to accomodate the changes in feet size.

Barefoot, pregnant and chained to the kitchen sink.....

I think it's a way of describing families with 15 kids or something back in the old days

The saying means living in poverty (not enough money for shoes),AND domestically subservient, but still popping out kids. It originally was quite derogatory, but these (post feminist) days we've appropriated it as something funny.
