I had a ceza 3 years ago with my first baby, one week before I was due she hadnt dropped at all she was still sitting up under my ribs...I have been told by some doctors that it was just one of those things that happen and other doctors told me that its because my pelvis is too small to for a bub to fit through and that chances are ill probly have another ceza..Im nearly 11 wks pg and I really dont want to have another ceza.although i didnt have any probs with first one but i would just like to experience a natural birth(as silly as that may sound) lol. I will be very upset if i have to have another one,has this happened to anyone else??
tasha I can only say read up and inform yourself on your choices and what is best for you & your baby. Come and visit the caesarean chatter in the labour & birth forum.
I had a c/s with my first after induced labour which resulted in failure to progress and emergency c/s. With my second I had a vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) and I think the only way I accomplished it was by reading heaps and getting support from a doula. I read a book called Silent Knife which was amazing.
tasha - I was (am) in exactly the same situation as you with wanting to try for a VBAC - Are you going to the same Doctor as you went to the 1st time, as often they can just say yeah anothe c/s and that is it, you are at an advantage still being early in pregnancy, you may be able to see another doctor that will give you more of a chance with a VBAC unless it is absolutley neccessary to have a c/s .
My pelvis is a fair bit under average size at the very opening which stopped my 1st baby from engaging (the 1st obstetrician I had never explained this to me!, I am only finding out now) and he was only small. This time round I am having a much bigger baby and he is not going to engage because again my pelvis opening is too small, so I am booking in to have a c/s in around 2 weeks.
My situation is that if my babies were able to engage, that is half the battle, that once they are in the pelvis even if measurements are under it can still stretch and open enough to let baby through. I was very dissapointed at first as I was trying for a VBAC, but I have given in to it now, I am just dying to meet my little boy and want to do it in the healthiest and happiest way possible. I do feel so much better however having done the research and asked the questions this time around and don't feel like I have been railroaded into anything.
Also just a word of advice, try not to get caught up in the VBAC debate where everyone is telling you that it is your body and if you want to have one you can, is great to have the encouragement and feel empowered but - Sometimes it is just not medically safe, you have do decide who's opinion and judgement you trust the most, and once you do that you will be happy with whatever decision you make.
I'm pretty sure DS didn't engage, no mention of it was made at any OB visits that he'd engaged yet, and I didn't have any of the 'discomforts' of an engaged bub.. but no mention was ever made of it being my pelvis size that related to this? Anyway, I was in labour 2 days after an appt with the OB, and I'm pretty sure he engaged during the prelabour stages coz I felt all the pressure on my bladder etc then.
So I've kinda popped in here to ask if baby engaging is really a sign of pelvis size? I haven't heard of this before. I just thought they engaged whenever, and it can be as late as during labour (like me).
Liz is right - Babies fail to engage for all kinds of reasons, it doesn't have to have anything to do with Pelvis size.
That's what I was going to ask you but I forgot (PG brain!) What is making the Dr. say your pelvis is too small? Are they just assuming that because baby hasn't engaged that must be the reason, or has it been looked into?
Hey thanks for your input guys,um im going to look more into this now..iam seeing a different doctor to what i was seeing with my first pg and i just explained to her her my daughter failed to engage and she said it would be because my pelvis is to small for her to fit through.Im now starting to think they dont know what they are talking about lol after reading all your posts,i was just going to go along with what the dr were saying but i might get a few different opinions now......thanks
Aidyn was not engaged in my pelvis at all in the weeks leading up to labour - and only engaged once labour began, and I went on to have a vaginal birth.
I think the best thing is to ask lots of questions - find out exactly why your Dr thinks your pelvis is too small, - and do lots of your own research!
Goodluck Tasha!
