    Are you eating much more...?

Hi everyone...I have a few pregnancy books...one says in the second and third trimesters you should eat 300 extra cals a day...another book says 200 extra (it isnt much either way)...and yet another says you only need more in the last tri.

Just wondering have you been monitoring how much you are eating and eating a bit more?

I am definately hungry enough to eat more! Have been being pretty careful so far.

I have been eating like a horse!!! I'm hungry a lot too. I don't particularly monitor it and certainly not my calorie intake.

I'm finding I have breakfast, 2 x lunches (one earlier and one later) and then dinner.

I try and be sensible about what I'm eating. If I'm hungry between one of my 4 meals I go for fruit rather than a packet of tim tams.

I've read that in the first trimester there is no need to increase your food intake, after that around 300 calories per day more is required.

I wouldn't really know how many calories I'm eating per day, I'm just eating when I'm hungry. It's all good stuff, though (mostly!!) and even the sweet things are either fruit, which I can't seem to get enough of, or homemade cake/biscuits. I just stick to one or two and then wait for a while to see if I'm still hungry. I've been the same weight now for about three weeks and only put on about 5 kilos since the beginning of the pregnancy, so I'm happy with that.

ive never counted calories or anything like that...i know they say the whole 'eating for two' thing is a bit of a myth, but obviously you will eat a bit more than you normally would. i think the main thing is the quantity of what you're eating. if you're eating a lot of healthy things like fresh fruit and vegies, and healthy snacks, then go for it. but at the end of the day its about what you think you can stomach and what you're able to eat. i have eaten a fair bit of junk with this baby lots of chocolate and chips and stuff.....but i feel fine so what the hey?

300 calories is about a sandwich anyway, so two lunches is a good way to do it, or a couple of extra snacks. Don't do what I did and eat all day every day! It's too hard to get it off at the other end! I reckon if you just make sure you eat when/before you're hungry and it's good healthy food, it shouldn't matter what the calorie count is x

I just eat when I am hungry, which varies day to day. Try to stick to my 5 small meals but don't stress if I don't. I read every single pregnancy book I could get my hands on but only paid attention to the stuff that agreed with reason and my lifestyle. ; )
