Advice needed - BFP with very low levels

    Hi,

I am in need of some advice and I hope I have posted this in the right section.

I am at the close of my first IUI cycle after 2.5 years of trying naturally with no hint of a BFP. I went for a blood test today and recieved the results this after noon. The nurse said 'it is positive, but your levels are very low and the dr would like to do another blood test'. So i am a unsure as to how to take this? Are my levels low cause i could be losing the bub? Or cause I have left over hcg in my system from the hcg injections?

Can anyone offer any advice? I will be sick with nerves having to wait for another blood test which is only 4 days away, but seems like a life time!

Thanks for reading and I welcome any comments.

    Hi Diamondgirl
The second bloodtest will be to check the HcG has doubled...usually doubles every couple of days in the beginning...after about 5 weeks it varies alot. Levels start low and increase and everyone's different? The fact remains that you have a positive HcG reading! I know it's hard but I always reminded myself that they know alot...but not everything! And with IUI there is a 'window' for implantation which may have happened later hence the low level. Hang in there! We're all here sending lots of positive sticky vibes your way xxx

Thank you Ellie for your kind comments. I will try to hang in there, but I am just so nervous and anxious. I am trying to be positive and your reply has helped a lot.

My levels came back low with my second, they said it was because I was earlier than we thought, but it turned out the dates were right and were just low! Everyones different and another test will confirm that they are rising for you!
    Best of luck!!!!

diamond - i've just had very similar outcome with IUI - at BT, i was 15 days post IUI, and my levels were considered "just positive" - two weeks (and a couple of BT's later!), my levels are climbing beautifully, and this morning we got to see our little Gremlin in our first u/s - with it's little heart beating beautifully!

it's bloody hard when there is so much indecision - i had two choices - to fret (which i still did a bit!), or to embrace the positive results i had, and hope it kept climbing - i chose option two, and everything is looking fantastic now!

    thinking of you

I agree, it is hard to get a picture of what is happening with out that second test. And it is the doubling time that is the key. My experience has taught me that HCG's are important but not everything. So hang in there and keep busy
    And by the way
    congrats

I just wanted to say thanks to you all for your comments. I heard from my IVF nurse today who explained the results a little better. She said my levels were only 18, and that she is not positive at this stage that they will rise. She said they should be 100 at this stage. I can only wait and pray that she is wrong...

Congratulations Brissy Girl - i have followed your ttc journey from afar and am so glad you have finally recieved your much deserve bfp. Do you know what you hcg level was on your first bt?

first BT was 26, 6 days later 270, 7 days later somewhere over 3000. heartbeat detected 2 days after that - so low numbers ccertainly do NOT spell doom and gloom in all cases!!!

when do you have a follow up BT hun? as long as your levels are doubling (or thereabouts) every 48-72hours, that is the most important thing!!

i'm going to put a theory out there that may or may not apply to you - i'm a larger person, so i believe that my levels are low to start with simply because of this. i guess i looked at it that, being bigger, there has to be more blood in my body, so the same hormones released from an embryo would be LESS concentrated in my body in what they are in someone that is significantly smaller. the embryo can only put out so much hormone, so it makes sense that the blood concentration for a larger person would be less...

my next bt is not till tues, 4 days away!!! if yours was at 26, and rise healthy from there and now a heartbeat!!!! WOW!!! - then surely there is some hope for me. Thank you Brissy girl - the IVF nurses are not positive at all but surely there is a chance of them being wrong.

I understand what you are saying about more blood, and perhaps this applys to me also. I am certainly not a skinny girl .... I am just going to hang onto to the string of hope you have given me and hope the next few days fly by

    Hi Diamond

Hopefully by now you'll be getting the idea that your low levels dont necessarily mean bad news ..... I just wanted to pop in to say good luck tomorrow and I'll be eagerly awaiting your test results.
