    I have the CF gene.

My goodness this week has been the longest of our lives (even longer than the TWW if thats possible).

After routine visit to Obstetrician at week 10, he gave me the Cystic Fibrosis kit and said he recommmend i do it, but its up to me.....So i did it and sent it in and thought nothing more of it. A week later i get the call saying i am a carrier of the gene, and that if hubby is too, then there is a 1 in 4 chance our bubs could have CF. So panic panic panic. Even though only 1 in 25 are carriers, you automatically think the worst. So by the time they sent a new kit out, we sent it back wait for the results we were both almost suicidal.

Results in tonight saying hubby does not have the gene,i have never ever been so relieved in my whole life, and for the little bump that is now starting to show i am so relieved he/she is ok!

I never want to go through that again!

    Thanks for listening.

jayejaye, I understand its scary. I have the CF gene but we never tested my DH. We decided that it was okay either way for us....

I have a cousin who is 32 with CF, and her sister does not have it. DH has no family history of CF so we decided not to get him tested. Neither of our girls or the 40 cousins and second cousins in the family have it except for the 1.

Thank goodness he is not a carrier and you don't have to worry more for that.

glad to hear the positive results! I understand how traumatic a wait like that must be... but it's all worth it to hear that your little bundle of joy will be fine!

Congrats on the pregnancy! Best of luck

DH has no family history of CF so we decided not to get him tested.
The majority of kids diagnosed with CF have no family history of the condition, that's the thing with recessive conditions.

Jaejae, just letting you know that when almost all bubs are born, they have blood collected from a heel pr!ck and then tested for CF. It is possible if your bub is a carrier of CF (like you), that this may be picked up and you be asked to come in for further testing. Just thought i'd let you know so you don't stress too much if it does happen. The majority of bubs called in for further testing do not have CF, and are just carriers.

    take care,

    Kate

Absolutely, and that alone isn't evidence of someone not being a carrier.

DW's family has the recessive albinism gene. There is no history of it at all in any of her family branches, but her grandparents produced 2 out of 3 kids with the disorder, and since that time it has not reappeared. You just don't know until it happens, or in the case of CF where tests can be done.
